A timely message from Dr. Hannah Wright-Smith, UT Extension W**d Specialist!
Do you see what I see in this picture? I see a few buttercup plants that are the perfect size for spraying! That's right, we don't have to wait until our pastures turn yellow in a few weeks to spray for buttercups, in fact, herbicide applications made prior to flowering are far more effective than those made after weeds have begun flowering. Herbicide applications can be made when daytime temperatures are at least 55F to 60F, and nighttime temperatures are at least 40F. Based on the forecast, temperatures are looking good for an application of DuraCor, GrazonNext/Gunslinger, W**dMaster, NovaGraz, or 2,4-D over the next week or so. For best results, add a properly formulated surfactant (either nonionic surfactant or methylated seed oil, depending on the herbicide product label) to the tank prior to application.
