When memory, attention, reading, or comprehension skills are weak, learning and life can be harder than they need to be for children and adults. At LearningRx, our brain training programs target and train these weak skills using a series of intense (but fun!) mental exercises that work on the way the brain learns, thinks, remembers, and performs. Clients work one-on-one with their own personal brain trainer, which is a big part of what makes us so unique and our results so effective.

If homework battles were the theme of your evenings this school year, now is the time to change the story!

At LearningRx, we help students build the foundational skills they need to learn easier, faster, and better—and stories like this are common when those skills get stronger.

Learning doesn’t start with worksheets. It starts with the brain.

When skills like attention, processing speed, memory, and reasoning are strong, learning becomes easier, faster, and far less frustrating. When those skills are weak, even the most bright and motivated students can struggle.

That’s why at LearningRx we focus on strengthening the core cognitive skills that make learning possible in the first place.

Because when you train the brain, everything else gets easier. 🧠

If your child is working hard but school still feels like a battle, it might be time to look at what’s happening in the brain.

Strong working memory isn't just about following directions or listening in class.

These higher-level skills require strong working memory at the foundation if we're going to be able to do them with ease.

Cognitive skills are life skills. If you or your child is struggling to focus, learn, and remember, don't put off figuring out why. LearningRx is here to help you put the pieces together and address these concerns from the root cause. 🧩đź§

You know the feeling: the dining room table drama, the power struggles, the meltdowns that come out over seemingly doable tasks...

Schoolwork battles are not usually a defiance or behavior issue; they're almost always a communication that something about the task is just too hard for their brain to handle.

In this episode of podcast, Dr. Amy and Sandy tease apart whether the issue is:
1 - content-related (and they just need it re-taught)
2 - skill-related (most common, and can be remedied by strengthening those skills)
Or 3 - a pathology or diagnosis of some sort (like ADHD) that needs additional attention.

Parents have often told us that yes, the academic improvements they saw in their kids was well worth it—but the confidence? That's a win that goes beyond the classroom. When kids tackle challenges while improving their brain's ability to learn, it's so fun to watch this transformation happen.

Motivation isn’t just willpower.

It’s connected to:
🧠Executive function
🧠Attention
🧠Emotional regulation
🧠Confidence
🧠Feeling like you're capable of success.

If starting feels hard, finishing feels impossible, and every assignment turns into a power struggle, the issue may not be discipline or interest.

It may be brain-based.

When we understand the brain skills that drive struggles with thinking and learning, we can equip our kids with the right tools they need.

All week we've been talking about the brain behind the struggle, and if you're ready to find out which weak skills are at the root of your child's learning challenges, call us today to schedule your next step.

When kids avoid hard things, it’s easy to assume they’re being lazy, defiant, or unmotivated.

But sometimes the real issue is weak reasoning skills. 🧠

Reasoning is the brain’s ability to figure things out: connecting ideas, recognizing patterns, solving problems, and making sense of new information. When this skill is weak, challenging tasks can feel confusing and overwhelming.

So instead of leaning in, many kids will:
• shut down
• avoid difficult work
• say “I can’t do it” before they even try
• get frustrated quickly
• rely on memorizing instead of understanding

During Brain Awareness Week, we’re highlighting The Brain Behind the Struggle, because when we understand the cognitive skills behind learning and behavior, we can respond with better solutions.

At LearningRx, we train the underlying brain skills that make learning possible, including reasoning, working memory, attention, and processing speed. When those skills get stronger, kids don’t just work harder; they’re finally able to think through challenges with confidence.

Reasoning is the brain’s ability to:
🧩See patterns
🧩Connect ideas
🧩Think through next steps
🧩Solve new problems independently
🧩Think flexibly and evaluate alternatives

When it’s weak, tasks often feel too big, too unpredictable, or too impossible.

That “I don’t know” response you get when something feels hard?
Sometimes it really means, “I don’t know how to think through this.”

Shutting down is often a form of self-protection because they feel stressed and incapable, not defiance.

Understanding gaps in skills like reasoning helps us respond with clarity instead of conflict. This is our mission with this brain behind the struggle emphasis for 👉 that you will walk away with more curiosity, empathy, and understanding for the challenges you're navigating with your child every day.
