Don’t Let Rental Customers Go Down the Wrong Path with Supplemental Liability Insurance.
Supplemental insurance is defined as additional insurance coverage that complements a primary insurance policy. It provides extra financial protection for specific situations or needs that may not be fully covered by a main policy, also called a “primary” policy.
Think of it just like a vitamin supplement. People don’t live off vitamins alone. Vitamins are meant to supplement any deficiency in someone’s primary source of nutrition. To put insurance in vitamin terms, supplemental insurance is intended to enhance any primary insurance a renter may have. Another way of saying this is that primary insurance is essential food, and supplemental insurance are the vitamins (and not everyone needs vitamins).
So, what’s my point?
Please ask yourself, “When a renter purchases supplemental liability insurance for auto rental, what insurance plan acts as the primary insurance? Does the renter have a personal auto? Is your fleet plan at risk? Have they purchased primary rental liability insurance like Bonzah’s Renter’s Contingent Liability Insurance (RCLI)?”
What do renters really need for liability coverage?
When purchasing Bonzah liability coverage, renters should always purchase our primary liability insurance first, Renter’s Contingent Liability Insurance (RCLI). This policy is designated as a primary policy when a renter is at fault in an accident.
Bonzah’s Renter’s Contingent Liability Policy (RCLI)
• Provides primary coverage for the statutory state minimum liability requirements in all U.S. states (except Pennsylvania).
• Covers bodily injury and property damage liability to third parties. It does not cover the rental car. Rental car coverage is Bonzah’s Collision Damage Waiver (CDW) policy.
• Protects renters when they are at fault in an accident.
• Covers all eligible drivers listed on the rental agreement if they are over 21 and have a valid driver’s license.
• Acts as a barrier for potential claims on a rental car company’s fleet policy by injured third parties.
What is Supplemental Liability Insurance (SLI)?
Bonzah’s Supplemental Liability Insurance (SLI) extends liability coverage for bodily injury and property damage when a renter is at fault in an accident. It only applies when any primary coverage has been exhausted. It is for those renters who need or want additional coverage beyond state minimum requirements.
Remember, RCLI liability insurance is the essential food. SLI are the optional vitamins.
When buying Bonzah Insurance, keep renters safe on their journeys. Bonzah’s RCLI should be purchased to meet state liability requirements, and then SLI should be purchased if a renter needs additional coverage.
* We realize that others in the market may be using the term “supplemental insurance” in a way that is inconsistent with Bonzah's definition.
