Pre comp excitement to post comp with some bling!
This weekend was amazing! The journey to this point is quite a long one. Back in Dec of 2012, I walked into a CrossFit gym for the first time not knowing what to expect. I was humbled, inspired, and wanted more of whatever we just did in the workout. It was fun but my guard was up. I said if this ever felt like a sport/job, I was OUT!
I grew up as an athlete and training was work. It was hard, it was time consuming, and I was definitely not balanced but I loved it! I would do it all over again if I could (and learn even more from the best coach that ever lived). As a mom, sport was not a priority, but I loved this too… in another way. I was competitive but not competing against the others in the room like I was in the pool. It was a community of people doing hard things together. I did CrossFit for about 3 years before we tried for baby #3 and that turned into a 6 year break.
Returning to CrossFit in 2021 was perfect timing. God knew I would need this community again and the therapy that working out provides. I lost my brother and then my mentor/swim coach. I saw first hand how this “sport” helped me and how it could help others too. So, when the opportunity to purchase CrossFit Knoxville became available we jumped at the chance.
Each year my love for this crazy sport has grown and this year I decided to see what this 45 year old mama could do… I competed in the open for the 5th or 6th time, then the quarterfinals for the first time, and therefore a first time experience for the semis too! I fell 14 spots short of making it to the (Masters) CrossFit Games as an individual but got to experience it as a team this weekend. It was amazing! I was humbled, inspired, and wanted more… let’s see what the year ahead brings… to be continued 😉
