Behind the Scenes at Cirrus!

Today, Sunshine Services had the incredible opportunity to tour the Cirrus Vision Center in Alcoa. We witnessed a customer’s excitement as they picked up their plane for the very first time, explored the high-tech simulator where pilots train, and got an up-close look at a few stunning aircrafts 🛩️

A special thank you to our board member, Nate, for helping facilitate this unforgettable experience and to Cirrus Aircraft TYS for welcoming us behind the scenes of aviation innovation!

📣 Please join us in welcoming Kelsey Fleming to the Sunshine Services Board of Directors 📣

Kelsey currently serves as the Executive Director of Employee Engagement and Organization Development for the University of Tennessee System HR. With a career spanning military, corporate, and nonprofit sectors, she brings a powerful blend of strategy, service, and innovation to our mission.
A former Marine Corps Captain, Kelsey has held roles in HR, finance, and veteran services. She’s also led global GenAI initiatives at Amazon, supporting skill-based hiring frameworks through her work with a team of psychologists and machine learning scientists.
Kelsey holds a B.S. in Political Science from the U.S. Naval Academy and a Master of Public Administration in Nonprofit Management from Liberty University.

We are honored to have her leadership, heart for service, and bold vision on our board. Welcome, Kelsey!

Meet Austin! Austin just landed his very first job in the community at Dollar Tree – and we couldn’t be happier for him!

With hard work, determination, and a smile that brightens every room, Austin is proving that meaningful employment is possible for everyone. He’s stocking shelves, helping customers, and making sure no detail is overlooked.

As Austin says: “I’ve been making sure that I stack products up so that people with back problems and people who have a hard time seeing are able to find what they need easier.”

A big thank you to Austin’s Supported Employment Coordinator, Paul Hankins (pictured below), for walking alongside him on this journey and helping make this milestone possible.

Way to go, Austin! Your thoughtfulness and dedication inspire us all. Let’s cheer him on in the comments and celebrate this big achievement!

You may not always see them, but our Warehouse Team is the heartbeat of Sunshine Industries — our social enterprise providing packaging, fulfillment, and manufacturing services while creating inclusive jobs for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD).

From delivering supplies and repairing equipment to tackling last-minute challenges, these folks power efficiency, provide unwavering support, and embody the Sunshine spirit every single day.

Here’s to the incredible crew that keeps our work moving and our mission shining bright!

📣New Board Member Spotlight 📣

Please join us in giving a warm Sunshine welcome to our newest board member, Deanna Unger!

Deanna brings a wealth of knowledge and heart to the Sunshine Services board. A proud graduate of the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, she holds a Bachelor’s in Psychology and a Master’s in Human Resources.

When she’s not making an impact through her work or volunteering, you can find her on the tennis court with her husband, Daniel. Deanna also serves on the boards of Hillcrest Healthcare and Holston Camp and Retreat Ministries — a true testament to her dedication to community service.

We’re so glad to have her leadership, insight, and passion on board!

Greg’s Story: Enabling Technology in Action

With the help of an iPad, a waterproof speaker, and his favorite western theme songs (Bonanza + Rawhide), Greg is thriving in new ways:
- Taking showers nightly, with little to no
prompting
- Eating breakfast daily after months of
skipping
- Pitching in with household chores for
the first time in years

And the best part? He’s doing it all more independently than ever. This is what Enabling Technology is all about - unlocking confidence, joy, and everyday success.

We had such a fun evening at the Pilot Family YMCA Water Fit class yesterday! ☀️ A perfect way to beat the heat and get our bodies moving and grooving with other community members.

Our crew had so much fun, they’re already asking to get another class on the calendar! Thanks to the YMCA staff and members for being so welcoming to us and letting us join in on the fun.
