We want to take a moment to clarify something important due to recent news coverage.

Sunshine Services is not closing.

While one program within our organization, Sunshine Industries, will be closing, Sunshine Services as a whole remains open and fully operational.

Sunshine Industries has been a beloved, legacy program that impacted generations of individuals, families, and employees. We honor the decades of meaningful work, community partnerships, and opportunities it provided, and we recognize how deeply this change is felt.

As we navigate this transition, we are working diligently to support the individuals and employees impacted, including actively assisting with job placement and next-step opportunities. Our priority is to care for the people who have poured their time, talent, and heart into this program.

Sunshine Services continues to operate and provide critical supports, including:

Residential services

Community participation

Employment services

Enabling technology supports

Other essential programs across East Tennessee

“For more than 70 years, Sunshine Services has adapted to continue serving individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities,” said Crittendon. “While this is a difficult moment, our mission remains strong, and we are committed to moving forward with transparency, compassion, and responsibility.”

Sunshine Services is seeking a Contract Grant Writer.

Sunshine Services, a nonprofit serving individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities across East Tennessee, is seeking an experienced contract grant writer to support our organization on an ongoing basis.

We are looking to partner with someone who can help manage all grant activity moving forward, including:

☀️Identifying and tracking funding
opportunities
☀️Writing and submitting competitive
grant proposals
☀️Supporting reporting and compliance
requirements
☀️Collaborating with leadership to align
grants with organizational priorities

This is a long-term contract opportunity, ideal for a grant professional who enjoys building deep organizational knowledge and working as a strategic partner rather than on one-off proposals.

Experience with human services, disability services, workforce development, housing, or capacity-building grants is a plus.

Due to continued icy conditions, limited transit availability, and the short service window created by delayed start times, we will be closed tomorrow, Monday, January 26th.

The safety of the individuals we support and our staff is our top priority, and with temperatures remaining below freezing following today’s rain, conditions are not expected to improve enough to safely operate. We will resume services once conditions allow.
