“What I most enjoy is watching students begin to grow in confidence with their knowledge and abilities,” she shares. “It is so rewarding to see them step out of their comfort zone, gain experience, and demonstrate excitement and belief in themselves with what they are capable of.”

Through her dedication, encouragement, and belief in her students, Leslie Long continues to inspire the next generation of nurses, helping them not only succeed, but truly believe in themselves along the way.

Building meaningful relationships is at the heart of how Jennifer Patrick approaches teaching and mentoring.🧡 She finds the greatest joy in watching students grow—gaining confidence, strengthening their skills, and moving from uncertainty to understanding

One moment that stands out was working with a group of DNP students who developed and led their own project from idea to implementation. Through challenges and teamwork, they remained committed, positive, and collaborative, ultimately delivering a project that was both robust and rigorous. Witnessing their perseverance and success was especially rewarding.

Her favorite moments in the classroom? Those unforgettable “aha” moments when a difficult concept finally clicks.

Scholarship applications are NOW open! Meet UT Medical ABSN Scholar, Ariel Murray.🧡

"Hi! My name is Ariel Murray, and I am an ABSN Scholar for the 2025–2026 class. I love listening to music, going on walks with my dog Finn, and spending time with my friends and family. My path to nursing was anything but straightforward. I explored many different areas of healthcare through shadowing, certifications, and education before ultimately discovering that nursing is where my true passion lies. I’m so excited to begin the career that I love. Go Vols!"
