The new TOA Surgery Center is here to change the way East Tennessee experiences outpatient orthopedic care.

At our August 12th Open House, guests toured our 36,000-square-foot facility featuring 12 advanced operating rooms, explored state-of-the-art surgical technology, and enjoyed food and beverages.

This milestone marks the first TOA Ambulatory Surgery Center in Tennessee… built to deliver expert care, innovative technology, and better outcomes for our patients.

Surgeries begin October 2025, and we look forward to welcoming patients into this new chapter of orthopedic care.

Welcome to TOA East Tennessee, Dr. Koutlas!

Dr. Nathaniel Koutlas, our newest fellowship-trained total joint surgeon, will be seeing patients at our TOA Tower at Parkwest and Lenoir City locations.

Dr. Koutlas earned his medical degree and completed his orthopedic surgery residency at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, followed by fellowship training in adult reconstruction at NorthShore Orthopaedic Institute in Skokie, Illinois. He has received multiple academic honors and has presented nationally on topics including fracture care, joint reconstruction, and orthopedic trauma outcomes.

It’s football time in the Smoky Mountains! The Sevier County Schools hosted their high school football jamboree on Friday, August 15. Football teams from Gatlinburg-Pittman, Northview, Pigeon Forge, Sevier County, and Seymour competed on the gridiron while the schools’ bands as well as dance and cheer squads performed.

TOA East Tennessee physicians and surgeons were on hand to work alongside Covenant Health athletic trainers in providing sideline medical care. It was a great kickoff to what promises to be a great season of fall sports in Sevier County and across the region. Here’s to a great and healthy season for all student-athletes!

Welcome to TOA East Tennessee, Dr. Swenson!
Dr. Samuel A. Swenson, our newest Physical Orthopaedic Spine Surgeon, will be available to see patients at our TOA Oak Ridge Physicians Plaza and Tower at Parkwest locations.

Dr. Swenson earned his medical degree from the George Washington University School of Medicine and completed his orthopedic surgery residency at the University of Iowa. He then pursued advanced fellowship training in spine surgery at the Indiana Spine Group in Carmel, Indiana, where he trained in the latest surgical and non-surgical techniques for managing cervical, thoracic, and lumbar spine disorders.

TOA’s Doctor Chase Wilson provided medical coverage alongside the athletic trainers from Covenant Health during last Friday’s middle school football jamboree hosted by Sevier County Schools. Teams from Gatlinburg-Pittman, Northview, Pigeon Forge, Sevier County, and Seymour played some hard-hitting football, and the cheerleading and dance squads from the schools performed exciting routines at halftime.
