Juneteenth, or Freedom Day, is the oldest nationally celebrated commemoration of the ending of slavery in the United States. This holiday is considered the longest-running African American holiday and has been called America’s second Independence Day. It was on June 19, 1865, that Union soldiers, led by Maj. Gen. Gordon Granger in Galveston, Texas, informed the state’s residents that slavery had been abolished.

Happy Pride Month!

On June 1, 2009, US President Barack Obama issued "Proclamation No. 8387", or "Le***an, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender Pride Month, 2009". The proclamation acknowledges contributions made by LGBTQ+ Americans in promoting equal rights and broader initiatives.

To learn more about this moment in history check out: https://guides.loc.gov/lesbian-gay-bisexual-transgender-queer-pride/history-overview

For any corrections, please contact us direct.

We are building a web-based version of "The Rainbow Calendar" for all to access, so if you have any moments in LGBTQI+ history you'd like to add, we'd love to hear from you! 🌈

Thank you!!! 🥰You two were wonderful!❤️And recently and immediately saw the importance of (and agreed to provide) ASL interpreters for any Deaf or Hard of Hearing clients that would like one for closing day! They are the only ones, to my knowledge, to provide this service! Accessibility, folks! Thank you!😊
