I know this firsthand as a grandparent who was not willing to give up my granddaughter to the system. Me and my wife have had our granddaughter since birth. I am not alone; grandparents taking it upon themselves to raise the children of their opioid-addicted children is a scene that is increasingly common across the nation. This is not just a random "I will watch Bobby" situation. We are seniors and middle-aged people who are the full-time primary caregivers for these children.
The opioid crisis is forcing grandparents to raise their grandchildren and blow through their retirement savings.
