Congratulations to Kristofer, the September BEE Award recipient! A staff member in the NICU said, "One of the most impressive things about Kris is that he doesn't limit himself to what's in his job description. He'll restock items from our unit's supply table without being asked, simply because he sees it needs to be done. He also consistently follows up on supply requests, ensuring that nothing slips through the cracks. His positive attitude, strong communication skills, and willingness to accommodate our needs make a noticeable difference."

The BEE Award is an East Tennessee Children’s Hospital unique honor that recognizes any non-clinical staff member who goes beyond excellence at ETCH in their role to support patients, families and/or other co-workers. Nominate an employee at https://www.etch.com/about-us/daisy-awards/

Dax spent 10 days at our hospital after a trip to the emergency room for hereditary pancreatitis. His mom, Kelcie, said, “This was the hardest thing I have ever had to watch, the severe pain this brings. But, the staff was absolutely INCREDIBLE and my son was actually sad to leave and wanted to come back, solely because of the staff that would take him to the playroom and make slime and bracelets.”

“Dax now shares with everyone about his diagnosis and what he has learned about it, while also telling all of his friends about his experience at Children’s Hospital. He doesn’t even talk about the pain it brings, but all the fun he had while he was inpatient and what he learned. We know we will probably be back at some point because of the hereditary pancreatitis and as much as I dread knowing what that entails, I know my boy will at least have the bright spot of the staff to help make it not so bad when he is there.” said Kelcie.

We Get Kids

East Tennessee Children's Hospital is a 152-bed hospital certified by the state of Tennessee as one of four Comprehensive Regional Pediatric Center in Tennessee and is accredited by the Joint Commission. As a Comprehensive Regional Pediatric Center, Children's Hospital offers full capabilities to care for seriously ill children in a unique pediatric environment and offers the services of many different pediatric sub-specialties. Children's Hospital works jointly with the University of Tennessee Medical Center to ensure that injured children in this region receive trauma care at the institution most appropriate for the child's needs. We also assist smaller hospitals by providing pediatric health care training opportunities.

Since our first day in 1937, we have had an "open-door" policy that no child will be denied care because of race, religion or their parents' ability to pay their child's medical bill.

Because children are special... they deserve the best possible health care given in a positive, family-centered atmosphere of friendliness, cooperation, and support - regardless of race, religion, or ability to pay. Their medical needs are closely related to their emotional and informational needs; therefore, the total child must be considered in treating any illness or injury. Their health care requires family involvement, special understanding, special equipment, and specially trained personnel who recognize that children are not miniature adults. Their health care can best be provided by a facility with a well-trained medical and hospital staff whose only interests and concerns are with the total health and well-being of infants, children, and adolescents.
