Twenty years ago, Sara's son Tylor received treatment for a medical condition in our NICU, thanks to the care of Nurse MeLisa. Sara’s experience at our hospital inspired her to join our environmental services department. When she learned that MeLisa still worked in the NICU after all these years, she was overwhelmed with emotion. She approached MeLisa with a photo of her and Tylor, marking a touching reunion. This moment exemplifies the full-circle experiences our hospital provides for patients, families, and staff, proving that anything is possible. Now 20 years old, Tylor is an inspiration for other NICU families, showing them that successful and healthy lives for their little ones truly are achievable. Sara said, "We had a very special nurse while there named MeLisa, who still works there, and now I am an employee with the EVS department and couldn’t be happier to work for just a great company."

Bill Williams was a beloved friend of ETCH and a returning guest of the Children's Hospital Telethon. The first Children's Hospital Telethon took place in cooperation with Children's Miracle Network, which was broadcast locally on WBIR-TV 10 for 30 years. Bill was an instrumental part of the millions of dollars raised for our hospital, which supported the purchase of large medical equipment, including an MRI machine and a Lifeline Ambulance. His legacy lives on in the care we provide to our patients. Rest in peace, Bill 💙

It's been a busy season for our hospital! Since May 2025, we have celebrated grand openings at our Sevier Outpatient Center, Oak Ridge Outpatient Center and the Neurosciences Center!

The newly renovated Sevier County location will serve as the primary location for Sevierville Pediatrics and include Rehabilitation Services and Urgent Care. The new Oak Ridge location will serve as the primary location for Oak Ridge Pediatrics and include Rehabilitation Services and an Urgent Care opening this fall. By combining services under one roof at the outpatient centers, Children’s Hospital is making pediatric healthcare more convenient to better serve patients and families in Sevier County and Oak Ridge.

The Neurosciences Center project completes the co-location of physiatry, neurology and neurodiagnostics. This group treats children with brain injuries, seizures, provides testing such as EEGs and more. By combining these services under one roof, Children’s Hospital is making pediatric healthcare more convenient to better serve patients and families in this region.

Congratulations to Stacie, the June Sunflower Award recipient! A coworker said, "Stacie is respectful to her peers, to our patients, and to their families. She is always willing to teach and does so in a manner that empowers them to care for their child confidently. Stacie shows excellence in her daily practice. She is a Respiratory Therapist Coordinator and is always striving to give the best care for the patients in this hospital. East Tennessee Children's Hospital is turning school hallways into frontline defense against one of the most common chronic diseases among kids: asthma.

The Breathe Easy school-based program screened 531 elementary students in rural and urban areas to help identify asthma and reduce its impact, so kids spend more time in the classroom and less in the emergency room.

“Having the right tools in place has helped reduce exacerbations,” said Becky Miller, community benefit manager. “The screenings have allowed us to identify children who are potentially undiagnosed and kids who are undertreated or have poorly controlled asthma.”

We Get Kids

East Tennessee Children's Hospital is a 152-bed hospital certified by the state of Tennessee as one of four Comprehensive Regional Pediatric Center in Tennessee and is accredited by the Joint Commission. As a Comprehensive Regional Pediatric Center, Children's Hospital offers full capabilities to care for seriously ill children in a unique pediatric environment and offers the services of many different pediatric sub-specialties. Children's Hospital works jointly with the University of Tennessee Medical Center to ensure that injured children in this region receive trauma care at the institution most appropriate for the child's needs. We also assist smaller hospitals by providing pediatric health care training opportunities.

Since our first day in 1937, we have had an "open-door" policy that no child will be denied care because of race, religion or their parents' ability to pay their child's medical bill.

Because children are special... they deserve the best possible health care given in a positive, family-centered atmosphere of friendliness, cooperation, and support - regardless of race, religion, or ability to pay. Their medical needs are closely related to their emotional and informational needs; therefore, the total child must be considered in treating any illness or injury. Their health care requires family involvement, special understanding, special equipment, and specially trained personnel who recognize that children are not miniature adults. Their health care can best be provided by a facility with a well-trained medical and hospital staff whose only interests and concerns are with the total health and well-being of infants, children, and adolescents.
