Greetings from Barefoot Pickers. That was a welcome rain last night! I was so happy I didn’t have to water any flowers.
On to garden news. We sold out of our second picking but the third is on its way. We are looking to pick Friday but will keep you posted about Friday. These will be our last of the yellow peaches and we will then go into our white peaches. These probably won’t be ready till September. We will be closed today as we have no produce for sale.
Have a great day!

Greetings from Barefoot Pickers. Sounds like we are in for another hot day. A telling sign is that some of our window’s are hard to look out of because there’s condensation on them. Once the sun rises above the tree line there’s no sign of water drops. Natures way of watering the earth without storm clouds.
On to garden news. Well that surprise attack of an early evening thunderstorm storm Friday night blew a lot of peaches to the ground. The ants had a delectable feast of bruised peaches. With that said we won’t have nice peaches today and due to the heat again today we won’t be open. Inventory has been done of. our peaches and they are smaller ones. Our white peaches are coming along and one of our trees has some nice sized peaches. They should be ready by Friday. I will post pics of the peaches on Thursday.I do have smaller peaches picked for anyone who would want them for canning or freezing. Please let me know as i don’t want them to go to waste.
Well that wraps up the garden news for this soon to be scorching Monday.
Strive to find goodness and blessings in all situations. The blessings are there seen with an open heart, mind and soul.
Have a great day!

Greetings from Barefoot Pickers. We do apologize for the confusion over what day we can sell our peaches again. You probably are thinking those ladies don’t have it together about the picking day. You are right!😂my sister told me and I looked at them today as well and yes it will be Friday that we will be picking. To tell you the truth we are contemplating not taking anymore orders as I miss orders and some people don’t show up to get their peaches and then we scramble to get rid of them as we don’t have the space to keep them cool. Any ideas out there to make life easier for all of us? I’ve included a picture of how they are looking and excited to get selling these.
We thank you for your patience, kindness when an order is overlooked and thankful that you buy our produce.
Have a great day!

Greetings from Barefoot Pickers. We weren’t expecting the little rain shower this morning but it was welcomed as it saved me some watering duties.

Have a great day!!

Greetings from Barefoot Pickers. Buckle down the hatches later today. The forecast is for bad thunderstorms!! My grand daughter read to me the story of Galesburg’s St. Crescent. I had heard the tale that we are protected from tornadoes because he is here. Hope he continues to protect as our storms are getting worse!
On to garden news. We are open today. Self serve day. We have tomatoes, corn, some cucumbers and some zucchini. We will start taking peach orders on Monday. Please text your order to me, not here on our page or I might miss it. I’m trying to use one place for you to order so it will be less stressful for me. Also I ask you to please make arrangements for someone to pick them up on the day we call you if you can’t The peaches don’t keep long and we want you to have nice peaches.
Thank you and have a great weekend!!

Greetings from Barefoot Pickers. A beautiful, going to be oven hot day today but we’ve been here weather wise a lot this year. Our hostas once beautiful are showing brown where once shades of green tantalized our eyes. God created a beautiful palate of colors to paint his world so we could marvel at His creativity.
On to garden news. We are open today. It will be self serve. My sister gave me the day off so you might see other veggies not quite sure other than tomatoes. Would you believe we still have corn. We thought it was done but even matured it’s super sweet with large ears!! I’m sure everyone is corned out but we will make a good deal for freezing. Our peaches are looking better than the first picking. I’ve included pictures for this post to show you how nice they are. We will be selling them for $3 a pound. I love hummingbirds and I snapped some pictures of the one of two that come to eat. Our dear neighbors have a ton of hummingbirds. She told me she goes through 18 cups of sugar water a day. It’s such a beautiful sight to see them buzzing around the feeders. The humming of their wings is soothing and mesmerizing to all who visit their front porch!!
The day is calling me to get started with life on a Friday. May blessings and loving kindness blanket you today. Have a great day!

Greetings from Barefoot Pickers. It amazes me each morning that there’s so much dew on the ground. It brings back memories of early morning detasseling. What a job!!! Pay was only 1.40 an hour. My how time has changed!! Now they ride and detassel and are paid a lot more. To be young again, not the drama of school or peer pressures, but to be able to move and not hurt for days afterwards!!
On to garden news. There’s not much. Our tomatoes are coming on now with more ripening everyday. We are charging .50 a pound as one tomato can weigh a pound. It will be a self serve day as I’m over the moon happy as my daughter, granddaughter and great granddaughter are coming for a few days!! Making memories is very important to me. I want to leave a legacy of love, kindness and a faith in God and in Christ. With that have a great day!!

Greetings from Barefoot Pickers. Another beautiful morning! A welcomed day for most that work a full time job to sleep in, take a slower pace and catch up on things that didn’t get done during the week. I can’t believe it’s August! School will be starting soon and I have walnuts dropping already. Don’t know if it’s the tree dying or the worst case scenario is that fall is coming early this year. It wouldn’t surprise me due to the spring/summer we’ve had. It has been a challenge this year with the heat and humidity not to mention the rain amounts we’ve had. I don’t think we are lacking in soil moisture. With that on to garden news.
The corn master has informed me the corn is too old to sell. Our corn is over for the year. I’m pulling the beans as they have seen better days! The cucumbers are done as is the zucchini. The only produce we will have is tomatoes and peaches. The peaches are maybe two weeks out and the tomatoes are just coming on. So with all of this we are closed today. I know that Galesburg has a wonderful Farmers Market and there are vegetables/fruit vendors there. I’ve seen Good Hopes page and it looks like they have beautiful produce. We here at Barefoot Pickers thank you for all of your support over the years we’ve been doing this and encourage you to support all produce businesses.
This year has opened my eyes as to what i can do and what i cant do anymore. I kept saying i can do this on a smaller scale and still bring you our best but i can’t anymore. I live by priorities and i see a husband getting weaker from his ALS. Things i want to do with him before we can’t. This is my last year for produce. We will still have asparagus and peaches to sell in the future but that will be the extent of our produce. Another experience off my bucket list and I sincerely thank you for making my dream come true!
Have a wonderful day, don’t let opportunities that are far more precious slip through your hands than the money that would be made. In this life we need less greed and more love and compassion.

Greetings from Barefoot Pickers. It’s a beautiful, cool morning and to top it off NO rain!! I love this type of morning to be outside to hear the symphony of the birds and crickets. At night with our bedroom window open the owls, frogs and other types of insects sing their lullaby’s. There’s no other place I’d rather be!!
On to garden news. The tomatoes are coming on a few here and there but if all the green tomatoes ripen we will have a lot! Our tomatoes aren’t picture perfect but will taste better than the store tomatoes. They have cracks in the top but that is do to weather conditions, we have had a lot of rain! There’s a few cucumbers. The vines are starting to show signs of impending fatigue and death. There are a few peppers and SWEET CORN. We have a lot of nice ears to pick. We will make a deal worth your time to can it.
Well sitting here near the beans, they are calling to me to be picked. So with that remember do something kind today, you won’t regret it. Have a great day!

Greeting from Barefoot Pickers. I didn’t see this last thunderstorm coming but I guess I should have known since it’s been so hot and humid. I’m wondering now if we will have a snowy winter? This is heaven for weeds and grass, it’s hard to keep ahead of them. I have already waved the white flag in the garden. With that on to garden news!
We picked yesterday and sold out of everything. Our tomatoes are starting to peek thru the leaves and showing us they are ready to leave the vine. There’s not a lot yet but hopefully more as the days go by. We have a new pest in town. The tomato horned worm!! How they find the plants is beyond me. Thank goodness for Google! I remember in days gone by, you would need to get the encyclopedia out and look up information. Those little worms blend in so well I can stand there for minutes that seem like hours and not see them!! We will be picking corn today, I’m waiting for the word from the Corn Master AKA my brother in law to hit the muddy rows. If you have never tried freezing corn it is so easy and it tastes so good in the winter. You don’t have to freeze dozens and dozens. Start off small. You will not regret it and when you go to the store you can walk right past the frozen corn with a feeling of yes I did my own!! Tha peaches are done till late August/early September. Our onions are winding down as is the zucchini and cucumbers. The beans are not too far behind. It has been a most challenging growing season yet for us and I’m sure many gardeners feel the same way. Please pass the word around our corn is good and we need to move it.
Be patient, be kind, a word in anger can cause flames of words that wound, words of love uplift and inspire.
Have a great day!!
