Tommy Butler

Mr. Tommy Butler, a resident of Alabama and formerly of the New Hope community of Rockwood, passed away on Thursday, July 24, 2025. A full obituary will be posted once it is finalized.

The family will receive friends on Monday, July 28, 2025, from 5:00-7:00 pm Et at Evans Mortuary in Rockwood. Funeral service will follow. Graveside and interment services will be held on Tuesday, July 29, 2025, at 11:00 am in the New Hope Cemetery in Rockwood. Evans Mortuary is serving the family of Mr. Tommy Butler.

Ruth Avis Bowman Thomas

Ruth Avis Thomas, age 91, passed away peacefully at her home in Rockwood, TN on Saturday, July 19, 2025. She was born on July 13, 1934 in Norfolk, VA. Ruth was preceded in death by her husband Stacy Guy Thomas and her parents Margret and Dwight Bowman.

She is survived by her two sons, Mike and Ray Knight, her grandchildren Travis Knight (Tamary), Sam Bussey (Christian), Matthew Knight (Elizabeth), and Lynette Knight (Josh), many great grandchildren, several great great grandchildren, and a host of nieces and nephews, including a special niece, Ruth Ann Reilly.

Ruth had many cats and loved them all dearly. She was an avid quilter and spent most of her time creating special pieces for her loved ones. She truly loved all of her family and held tight to her roots. Her sharp wit and caring nature will be greatly missed.

Cremation arrangements have been made and a burial of her cremains will take place at a late date at the Veterans Cemetery in Knoxville, TN.

William Thomas Bell Jr.

Mr. William Thomas Bell, Jr. age 64 of Harriman, Tennessee passed away on Tuesday, July 22, 2025 at Roane Medical Center. He was born on June 20, 1961 to William Thomas Bell, Sr. and Anna Mae Thornes Bell in Juneau, Alaska. William enlisted in the Navy in 1989 and retired after 11 years and had different jobs such as being a driver for DoorDash and a driver for ETHRA. In his spare time he loved going to the movies and spending time with his family. He is preceded in death by his parents: William and Anna Bell. He is survived by:

Charles Robert "Bobby" Vance

Mr. Charles Robert “Bobby” Vance, age 78, a resident of Rockwood, Tennessee passed away Wednesday, July 23, 2025, at his home. He was born May 20, 1947, in Rockwood, Tennessee to Charles Casper Boyd “Buck” Vance and Mildred Ruth Pope Vance. He was a member of the South Harriman Baptist Church in Harriman, Tennessee and was a retired Accountant with Tennessee Valley Authority (T.V.A.). Bobby was a car enthusiast, especially enjoying Ford Mustangs and Chevy Chevelles, owning, working on, and driving several of them. He also enjoyed old time bluegrass gospel music. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Stephanie Jane Reid Vance; son, B.J. Vance; brother, John David Vance; and sisters, Marilyn Ruth Vance and Mary Elizabeth Dodd.

The family will receive friends Saturday, July 26, 2025, from 11:00 a.m. until 12:00 noon at the Evans Mortuary. Funeral services will follow on Saturday, July 26, 2025, at 12:00 noon from the Chapel of Evans Mortuary. Committal services and interment will follow in the Oak Grove Cemetery in Rockwood, Tennessee. Norma Jean Haun

Ms. Norma “Jean” Haun, age 89, of Rockwood, TN passed away Friday, July 11, 2025. See was born August 21, 1935 in Spring City, TN. She graduated from Rhea County High School in 1953. Jean loved to read non-fiction books about the life and times in the 15th and 16th centuries Europe. She enjoyed cross stitching and collecting lighthouses. Most of all she enjoyed spending time with her family and friends. She is preceded in death by her daughter: Joelene Haun; parents: Isham W. Haun and Grace Mae Parsons Haun; sister: Margaret Elizabeth McFarland; brother: Max. R. Haun; and nephew: Bill McFarland. She is survived by:

Sharon Lynn Boles Cofer

It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Sharon, age 57, who went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, July 9, while in the care of her eldest daughter.

Sharon was a devoted school bus driver who cherished the children she transported, ensuring their safety and well-being with unwavering care.

Following her retirement, Sharon found immense joy in spending time with her family, particularly her beloved grandchildren. She was the daughter of Jimmy Boles and Carolyn Golliher Grant. Sharon was preceded in death by her mother Carolyn, her sister Carla, her daughter Mistie, and her husband, John Cofer.

Sharon is survived by her father, Jimmy (Karen) Boles, daughter Jamie Gibson(Patrick Green), son Jonathan Cofer, her beloved grandchildren:

Adyson Guy, Mylie Wicks, Carlee Voiles, Case Voiles, Kaelyn Voiles, Brooklyn Sexton and Kyzer Sexton, sister Marla (Wesley) Hale, brother, Keith Hughes; and her nieces and nephews: Micheal Boles, Joshua Sexton, Justin Sexton, Marly Sexton, Cari (Nick) Voiles. She was a woman of deep faith, Sharon was a member of the Baptist faith. Her kindness, warmth, and dedication will be profoundly missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her.

A graveside service will be held Tuesday, July 15, 2025 at 11:00 am at Roane Memorial Gardens. Evans Mortuary is serving the family of Ms. Sharon Lynn Boles Cofer.

Katherine "Kathy" Smith

Mrs. Katherine “Kathy” Smith, age 76, a resident of the Pine Orchard Community of Oakdale, Tennessee was called home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, July 9, 2025, at her home. Kathy was born on July 2, 1949, in Rockwood, Tennessee to James “Joe” & Ethel Collett. She was a retired Beautician and Cosmetologist, and in her free time, quilting was her passion. She dearly loved all of her family and was deeply loved by them, and had a special bond with her siblings. She was preceded in death by her parents, James “Joe” & Ethel Collett; husband, Benton Smith; daughter, Amy Smith; and brothers, James “Eddie” Collett and Ronald “Wayne” Collett.
