Good news! Patient saliva was found not to be a major source of the microbes in aerosols generated during dental procedures. It is the water from the ultrasonic equipment that is the primary source of aerosols rather than saliva. That makes the risk of spreading Covid very low. Less than 1% of Covid 19 positivity was from Dentist's and their staff. "Getting your teeth cleaned does not increase your risk of Covid infection any more than drinking a glass of water from the dentist" stated Dr. Kumar. These findings were published on 5/12/21 in the Journal of Dental Research. For more info you can read this article on ADA news.
