Radiculopathy, AKA a pinched nerve, is when a nerve root in the spine is compressed. This compression often results in pain, muscle weakness, a tingling sensation, and even coordination loss, and loss of bladder control.

Treatment for radiculopathy typically starts conservatively: over-the-counter medications, physical therapy, and injections. If these treatments do not work, surgery may be necessary to relieve the pressure on the nerve.

❓ Did you know that lower back pain can cause knee pain?

‼️Yes, it's true - your knee pain might be linked to your back! Spinal problems such as sciatica, herniated disc, and spinal stenosis can irritate the nerves in the lumbar spine, which can send pain down the leg and into the knee.

We tell patients that surgery is the quickest part of their healing journey, and recovery is the longest.
One of the best ways to have an easier recovery after surgery is to be well-prepared. And one of the best tools to have on hand is a grabber tool. Grabber tools help you in many ways, and you will find yourself using them long after your post-surgery journey.

Grab a grabber during Amazon's sale! We recommend purchasing a 2+ pack so you can ensure one is always within reach.

Here are several tips to help keep yourself comfortable...

✔️ Sit upright, no slouching
✔️ Sit with feet flat on the floor - you might need a footrest to achieve this
✔️ Use lumbar support - whether with a pillow, rolled up towel, or special chair with built-in lumbar support
✔️ Choose a chair with a firm seat
🚶‍♀️ Stand up and walk often

What is the best pain reliever for back pain, and what dosage should I take?
For acute back pain, a weekly regimen of NSAIDs is the first choice of treatment for many doctors. It is important to stay on top of your regimen and not skip a dose. Patients should see a decrease in pain after one week.

If you suffer from back pain, you might be anxious to know your treatment options. The most common treatment options doctors try first are physical therapy, ice/heat therapy, OTC medications such as Advil, and epidural steroid injections. If these options are tried and fail, we then begin to look at more extensive options such as surgery.

If you suffer from back pain, whether acute or chronic, we encourage you to give our team a call for an evaluation and treatment plan.

What is complex spinal surgery?

According to Dr. Booth, complex spinal surgery is defined as:
"It can be defined in many ways, but typically it means multi-level procedures, or even procedures that require multiple surgeries, to fully solve the problem. Patients who typically require more complex care are those with previous surgeries, failed surgeries, or deformities."
