March is Colorectal Cancer Awareness Month. Colorectal cancer is the leading type of cancer among Alaska Native people, but it is also one of the most preventable.
Screenings help find colorectal cancer early, when it can be treated most effectively. Alaska Native people are encouraged to begin routine screenings at age 40, and regular screenings are recommended for all adults starting at age 45.
These conversations are not always easy, but they are an important part of caring for yourself and the people who depend on you. If you are due for a screening, or if you are unsure where to start, call (907) 486-9870 to schedule an appointment with your primary care provider and talk through your options.
