Happy Disability Pride Month Cougars! 🐾

July is Disability Pride Month - a time that is dedicated to honoring strengths, contributions, and culture of the disabled community. Disabilities are a natural part of life and this month we are proud to shine a spotlight on the creativity and courage that enriches our campus.

The colors of the disability pride month flag are very intentional!

Green represents sensory disabilities
Blue represents emotional & psychiatric disabilities
White represents non-visible & undiagnosed disabilities
Gold/yellow represents neurodiversity
Red represents physical disabilities
The charcoal background commemorates & mourns the disabled people that have lost their lives.

💡 Visibility Spotlight 💡
This week, our Accessibility Office shines a light on Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, not just for his success, but for his courage in sharing personal struggles. From grappling with depression to openly saying “it’s okay to ask for help,” he reminds us that vulnerability is strength. 💬🧠

At IU Kokomo, we believe that acknowledging challenges—and reaching out—is a true mark of power. Let’s carry that message forward: talk, listen, support. 🤝

Tennis legend Venus Williams has not only won 7 Grand Slam titles — she's also a fierce advocate for health and disability awareness. In 2011, she was diagnosed with Sjögren’s Syndrome, an autoimmune disorder that causes chronic fatigue and joint pain.

Despite the challenges, Venus continues to compete at the highest level and uses her platform to bring visibility to invisible disabilities. Her story is a powerful reminder that strength looks different on everyone — and that accessibility and awareness matter. 💪🏽💜
