The month of May is Lyme disease awareness month

While early Lyme disease is often treatable with antibiotics, many patients continue to experience persistent symptoms such as debilitating joint and nerve pain, overwhelming fatigue, cognitive difficulties, and a wide range of other symptoms —This condition is referred to as chronic Lyme disease.

One of the most difficult aspects of chronic lyme disease is the lack of consensus in the medical community regarding diagnosis and treatment. Patients often face misdiagnosis, medical gaslighting, skepticism, and a lack of treatment options.

As someone who has personally experienced the heartbreak and complexity of this illness, I have found meaning in supporting others on their journey to recovery.
I bring deep compassion and firsthand understanding in my work as a therapist and use powerful tools, somatic therapies, limbic system retraining, and counseling. In my experience I have found that calming the nervous system and reducing the stress responses are imperative for lasting healing when traditional medicine is not enough.

I want to encourage anyone who is suffering from chronic lyme disease or any other chronic illness to not give up hope. Healing is possible and you are not alone.

The month of May is Lyme Disease Awareness month.

I am grateful to be able to support Chronic Lyme Disease patients in my somatic therapy practice as an approved Lyme literate practitioner by the Lyme Warrior Organization.

Chronic Lyme disease is an incredibly complex, and painful illness. Lyme Disease can mimic over 100 other illnesses and is difficult to diagnose and treat for many doctors. Patients and their families often feel abandoned by the medical community which leaves them in states of hopelessness and despair.
In my somatic therapy sessions I strive to help my clients with pain management through breath work , regulation of the nervous system, and mindfulness techniques. Art therapy and expressive arts can help to process and release difficult emotions associated with chronic illness and allows clients to return to a state of calm and even find hope and meaning within their challenging situation.

Sunset meditation

My favorite meditation practice- this is my personal sunset meditation guide:

1. Find out when the sun sets in your area
2. Find a comfortable place where you can see the sun setting. If you live in the city and you can not see the actual sun set, or going outside is not available to you, open the window, make a connection with the sky.
3. Take time to notice the change of light, colors, and shapes surrounding you.
4. Take a conscious breath, notice your inhale and exhale
5. Think of 3 things that happened on this day you feel grateful for.
6. Think of one thing or belief pattern that happened on this day that does not serve you and that you can let go off. Let it move out of your body.
7. Sense your breath, feel the sensations on your skin, notice the temperature.
8. Close your eyes. Open them again at your own paste and timing and let your eyes rest on one new thing you did not notice before.

Caroline Kleindienst, MA, RSMT, creator of Somatic Healing Arts Maui, is a registered somatic movement therapist, expressive arts practitioner, and artist. Caroline uses various healing modalities to gain a deeper relationship to your body, discover your true self, and open your life to new possibilities for passion, purpose, and love. Somatic Movement Therapy: (from the Greek soma: through the body) includes tools of working with movement, stillness, breath, and sound to help you to connect to the here and now, and return to the body and the self. It helps to offer nourishment, restore safety and belonging, relieves anxiety, and reduce trauma and tension stored in the nervous system. Expressive Arts: offers a very powerful dialogue between movement, drawing, and creative writing. This approach gives you the possibility of letting unconscious material arise and come into consciousness past the barrier of our rational world views. Through this process life themes and challenges can be identified, confronted, and released in a creative way so change and growth can happen.

Family Constellations: accesses the most nourishing, meaningful and difficult dynamics in our family ancestry. By honoring ancestral consciousness, we can heal deep seated trauma and clear energy blocks within ourselves and our ancestral lineage. Eco-Somatics and Nature-Based Expressive Arts: by integrating our individual body to the broader community and the larger planetary body of the earth clients can find life-giving support that is often neglected in our industrialized culture

Embodied Mindfulness Meditation: a somatic approach to traditional contemplative sitting practices, focuses on breath, alignment, stillness, and movement. Embodied Mindfulness is informed by Eastern contemplative traditions, Western contemporary somatic approaches, as well as evolving research in the field of neuroscience and trauma studies.

Indigenous Sound/Movement Integration: supports clients to focus on the dialogue within their indigenous souls. Through holding space for personal rituals, and ceremonies, I invite my clients to look deeper at themselves and their environment and bring more sacredness into their lives.
