Today started SUPER sweet with the FIRST Valentine's baby in my practice!

This sweet girl decided when she was ready. She wasn't letting anyone stop her!

Mom, Dad, and Big Sister surrounded her with nothing but absolute love and adoration when she came earthside.

As always, it's an absolute HONOR to walk with these incredible families!!!

What is IUI and why do people choose it?

IUI is the process of inserting a washed s***m sample directly into the uterus for the purposes of conception. The way it works is that your provider thaws a washed s***m sample, then draws it into a sterile IUI catheter. Once the s***m is ready, the person receiving the IUI lies down and a speculum is inserted into the vagina/front hole to visualize the cervix. The catheter is then inserted through the cervix into the uterus, where the s***m is deposited at the top or fundus of the uterus, near the fallopian tubes. After the s***m is inside the uterus, the catheter comes out, and then the speculum comes out. It’s typical to stay lying down for fifteen to twenty minutes afterward, because studies have found that this period of rest slightly increases the chance of conception (language pulled directly from my book !).

People may choose IUI because they lack s***m in their relationship and may be using frozen s***m (such as our q***r and trans parents and families); a low-s***m count; unexplained fertility challenges; cervical factors; and especially when done with a midwife, the procedure could be more cost effective than other conception options.

This year was for education💜 lots of time spent honing lactation support techniques and deepening my lactation knowledge. I am also diving into trauma healing and somatic practices to support a deeper healing in those with trauma.

This year had some unexpected twists and turns, but we rolled with it and everyone thrived💜

Still staying the low and slow practice you have come to love. Lunches with clients, stopping in and loving on past clients, 2-3 hour visits when needed, lactation support added into care. Slow, intentional, just how we like it over here💜

It has been such an honor to serve these beautiful families and I am SO excited to see where this year takes me🥳💜
