Some traditions don’t just last a lifetime…
they carry one. 🧺💛

Dr. Ernest Ratliff has had the same Easter basket for 85 years.

He received it when he was just a little boy… about 2 years old. Every year, his mother carefully filled it for him.

Years later, when he got married, that tradition didn’t stop… it was lovingly passed to his wife, who continued filling that same basket.

And now… his daughters carry it forward.

Same basket.
Different hands.
The same love, passed down year after year.

85 Easters.
One basket.
A legacy that never missed a season.

This Easter weekend at The Philomena was nothing short of beautiful—laughter echoing through the halls, little feet racing for eggs, and generations coming together in the sweetest way.

Hi everyone, Chewy here 🐾

I just wanted to say THANK YOU for all the love after my big surgery (yes… I lost 10 teeth but gained at least 1000 extra cuddles 😌).

Aspen Hospice & Palliative Care San Marcos & Bastrop brought me the BEST care basket (10/10, would recommend)!!!

PAM Health Rehabilitation Hospital of Kyle and PAM Health at Home sent the most beautiful flowers… clearly matching my level of fabulous.

I’m recovering, soaking up the extra love, and being dramatic when necessary.

🐾 My beloved community… it is I… Chewy. 🐾

I come before you… not as I once was…
but as a survivor.

Today, at my very advanced and distinguished age…
I endured the unthinkable.

10 teeth… taken from me.
Not quietly… not gently… but in a battle I will never forget.

And yet… I remain.

Smiling… not out of joy…
but out of duty.

As I enter this delicate chapter of recovery… I must ask you, with what strength I have left:

🚫 Do not feed me.
Not the chicken. Not the snacks. Not even if I look at you with my old man eyes and whisper,
“this could be my last meal…”

(Do not believe me. I am strong. I will endure.)

🥣 I am now on a soft diet while my stitches heal…
a fate I never imagined… but one I accept with grace and dignity.

💛 If you wish to help me…
offer gentle pets… soft words… admiration…

Tell me I am brave.
Tell me I am handsome.
Tell me I have the smile of a warrior.

For I have seen things…
and I have lost much…

…but I am still your Chewy.
