We all use different techniques to overcome stress. When we have to encounter difficult situations repeatedly, we develop certain habits in an attempt to calm our nervous system. Unfortunately, many of these strategies only last for a short time. We will continue to use these unwanted habits until we learn a more helpful way to cope. We all have physical and emotional needs. We need food to survive. We thrive in loving and supportive emotional environments. Sometimes, we learned that certain needs don't deserve our attention and then we make it a habit to neglect them. An example is, instead of admitting we need connection in our relationships, we isolate, because we don't want to come off as "needy". Take time to identify your needs and share them with someone.
