Yesterday, students from Ballard County Preschool came for an Easter Egg Hunt here at Life Care Center of La Center! 🐣🌷 This has become a yearly event. They bring their own eggs and the teachers put them out. They do it just so our residents can sit outside and watch them. 😊 We appreciate them thinking about our residents β€” we love our community! 🩷

What does Occupational Therapy look like❓

It looks like someone practicing how to button a shirt again. πŸ‘” Rebuilding the strength and dexterity to hold a coffee cup. β˜• Rehearsing the motions to prepare a simple meal and learning to use a reacher to safely pick things up without bending 🫳.

During Occupational Therapy Month, we’re celebrating the amazing therapists who help our rehab patients rebuild confidence, independence, and the skills that make daily life meaningful. 🫢

Thank you to our incredible OTs for the difference you make every day. πŸ’™

πŸ“£ We have some great news: we recently earned a deficiency-free annual state survey for the second year in a row!

Each year, surveyors from the health department spend time interviewing residents, family members, and associates. They evaluate resident care, recordkeeping, staffing levels, food safety, fire safety, infection control practices and more. This year, the surveyors shared that they were impressed with how happy our residents are. πŸ₯°

β€œWe are so proud of the hard work and dedication that goes on at Life Care Center of La Center,” said Ginger Atkins, our long-time Executive Director. β€œGreat surveys are a result of the day-to-day effort to make every day a little bit better for the residents and families we serve. We are so fortunate to be a part of such a wonderful community, and I am personally honored to say I work beside the best staff out there.” 🫢

What a great time for all the seniors who came to play Lucky Bingo! πŸ€ We are honored to be able to participate in these quarterly events with Purchase Area Mental Heath and Aging Coalition (PAMHAC). Everyone had great time playing, socializing, and enjoying some snacks. Some seniors won the awesome gifts provided by the event, and some were even lucky enough to get a golden coin for a gift card just for sitting in the seat that they picked. πŸ’³ We can't wait for their next event! 🀩

πŸ’¬ "The staff is very professional and does a very good job taking care of people!" ~ Mr. Alexander

Mr. Alexander came to us for rehabilitation very weak and needing help with standing and walking, as well as with taking care of daily self-care tasks. Physical and occupational therapies helped him get stronger and regain function. πŸ’ͺ

"Mr. Alexander worked hard to achieve his therapy goals and to return home with his wife," our therapy team shared. "He was determined from the moment he admitted to our facility to get stronger and as independent as possible so he could return home safely." 🩷

He is doing much better and is more mobile and independent, and he was able to go home.

πŸ’¬ "I am so glad to be going home and to be better!" ~ Virginia

Virginia came to us for help in recovering from pneumonia and an infection, needing help getting in and out of bed, standing, and walking. She was totally dependent for eating, hygiene tasks, and getting dressed, and her difficulty swallowing left her on a modified diet of soft foods and thickened liquids.

πŸ’ͺ All three therapy disciplines got involved β€” physical, occupational, and speech β€” and started helping her get back to her normal level of function. When she completed her rehabilitation with us, she was able to swallow safely and back on a normal diet. She was up and walking with supervision and managing her hygiene tasks with supervision. She returned home with her daughter. πŸ‘

Julia was very weak when she arrived for rehabilitation after a bad bout with the flu. Our physical and occupational therapists worked with her five days a week to help her get back on her feet and regain her strength. πŸ’ͺ She shared a room with her husband, who is a resident here, and was such a pleasure to have with us.

By the end of her stay, she was able to walk around our facility independently and even walk on uneven terrain with a walker. She was able to prepare meals and manage some housekeeping. She worked hard and got stronger, just as she had wanted to! πŸ‘

"I enjoyed my stay here, but I am thankful to be going back to my home," Julia said. "Thank you for all your help." 🩷
