Doug Smith Retires from Ballard County Ambulance Service After Decades of Dedicated Service

Ballard County, KY — After more than two decades of unwavering service to the people of Ballard County, Doug Smith has officially retired from the Ballard County Ambulance Service. Doug’s retirement marks the end of a remarkable career filled with dedication, service, and a deep commitment to public safety.

Doug began his career with Ballard County EMS in 2002, bringing with him a wealth of knowledge and experience in emergency services. His journey in EMS began much earlier, having obtained his EMT license in 1981. He first served with the Barkley Regional Airport Fire Department, where he honed his skills and gained invaluable experience responding to emergency situations in a high-stakes environment.

In addition to his work in Ballard County, Doug is a long-time and active member of the West McCracken Fire Department, where he has remained committed to serving his community as a firefighter and first responder.

While Doug has long been known for his work as an EMT, his contributions to Ballard County EMS extended far beyond patient care. Doug played a vital role behind the scenes, serving as the agency’s Maintenance Officer. In this capacity, he was responsible for ensuring that the ambulance fleet remained in top operational condition. His meticulous attention to detail and commitment to safety meant that crews always had dependable, well-maintained vehicles ready to respond at a moment’s notice.

Doug’s legacy is one of loyalty, hard work, and a genuine care for both his coworkers and the communities he served. His presence will be deeply missed by his colleagues and the citizens of Ballard County.

As he moves into retirement, Doug leaves behind a lasting impact and a standard of excellence that will not be forgotten. The Ballard County Ambulance Service extends its deepest gratitude to Doug for his years of service and wishes him all the best in the next chapter of his life.
