❗️Update❗️
Little Bird is TEMPORARILY closing.

But don't worry I'll be back in business as soon as possible, cause you know I can't stay away!

Little bird will be closed August 1st through early September, while I am out on surgery leave.

During this time I'll be focusing on my recovery so I won't be able to answer calls and messages, but I encourage you to reach out to your local hospital lactation, for any needs that arise.

I'll plan to transition back with first opening access to phone calls and then eventually in person visits.
I'll post any details about reopening right here, on social media!

And in the meantime, I'm gonna knock out all my continuing education, so I'll be coming back better than ever!

Don't have too many babies while i'm away You know I'll be missing you all. See you in september!

-Erin

More Maternal health info you for...Did you know that 1 in 3 birthing people report feeling traumatized by their birth?

That is a staggering number. This can significantly impact the postpartum period, increasing the risk for PMAD's and shadowing all of the new territory to be navigated and memories to be cherished.

Brushing off our experiences with catch all phrases like "Well at least you're both healthy", just doesn't cut it.
We deserve better.

The good news is that there is lots of overdue light being shed on PMAD's and maternal mental health. This helps increase resources and better understanding from both healthcare professionals and the community in general.

In our own community, we are lucky enough to have several mental health professionals that can focus specifically on birth trauma and Maternal Mental health issues and concerns.

Check out the resources tab on The Motherhood Collective website for some of our favorite providers to support you through the perinatal period!

Its patio season! Take full advantage of the weather and bring your next nursing session outside🌞

Feeding doesn't have to be all work. Take your mama-multitasking to the max and use feeding time as a time to slow down and offer some nuturing to yourself along with your baby.

An outside breast or bottle sesh offers a chance for you and babe to soak up a little sunshine and fresh air!

Whether you settle into a chair in the backyard, a blanket on the beach, the perfect clearing on a hike, or maybe even patio seating at your favorite cafe or brewery, treat yourself and your baby to a little time in nature 🌻

May is Maternal Mental Health Month! One of the most important things we can talk about in postpartum honestly.

Did you know a staggering 1 in 5 postpartum people will experience some sort of perinatal mood disorder in the first year postpartum.
That's alot of of us, and really that's just what's reported, we can assume the actual occurence is higher.

Luckily, there has been a big shift to help postpartum folks identify perinatal mood disorders and find support.

I plan to share different resources throughout the month but here's an important FREE resources that anyone postpartum can access 24/7

04/21/2025

Bottle feeding can seem like "the easy option" and while its true that babies have to exert less effort to move milk out of a bottle, it still takes a certain amount of skill and coordination to do so.

The way a baby nurses from breast is different from how they drink from a bottle. If a baby starts on a bottle from the beginning, they often have to work to learn how to nurse at breast.

Likewise, a baby that has been exclusively at breast from the beginning may need a little exposure and practice to learn how to take a bottle.

If your goal is to breastfeed, its best to avoid the bottle in the beginning, when possible. BUT, if you plan to offer bottles at some point, there is a MAGIC WINDOW for bottle introduction....
Plan to offer baby's first bottle somewhere between 5-6 weeks old.
These bottles should be a small volume (think 1oz) to start with, to allow baby to practice this new skill. You can gradually increase the amount as they show you they are up to the task.
IMPORTANT REMINDER- remember to protect your supply once bottles are introduced. Remove milk when your baby is eating to avoid a supply mismatch.

Check out the reel pinned to the top of the feed for more tips on bottle introduction!
