❓Clients often ask: Does deep tissue massage hurt??❓

The short answer is no.

The longer answer is that everybody has a different tolerance for pressure and discomfort. Massage should never be outright painful. However, there will likely be some amount of discomfort as tension and tightness is worked through. Some people call it a "good hurt".

Everybody has a different tolerance for pressure - more is not better.

If you're tensing up in your body or in your breathing rhythm due to the amount of pressure, then the pressure is too much for that moment.

🖐🏼 How often should I get massage? 🖐🏼

The short answer is - shocker - it depends! Here are 3 levels of options that I usually recommend to help you decide what’s best for you.

Some additional considerations are:

Am I injured?

Depending on the injury/symptoms, you may benefit from coming in more regularly to expedite the process. As symptoms improve, sessions can start to be spaced out further. You may also want to consider working with other health practitioners to understand the injury and get the results you’re looking for.

What are my primary goals and reasons for coming in?

Pain management? Recovery? Health and well-being? Relaxation? Enjoyment?
Your reasons for coming in for massage will heavily influence the frequency that’s right for you!
