The mean girl thoughts existing within my clients minds…..

We ripped up those thoughts and yelled “F*CK THAT MEAN GIRL”, as they laughed and rejoiced because now they have jars full of loving affirmations from themselves and those around them✨

You are not those mean words your brain tries to tell you. You’re brilliant, resilient, worthy beyond compare.

Your worth is inherent simply because you exist✨

I created the Recovery Kit just over 1 year ago in memory of my friend, Sean, who lost his life to addiction. Addiction recovery is near to my heart for a variety of reasons, but most importantly, because I have so many loved ones who battle this disease every day. This kit is designed to provide the protection, comfort, and stability needed for a life of long term sobriety. To learn more, message me! If you’re someone who thinks you may struggle with substance abuse, also know I’m a licensed therapist and happy to point you in a safe, supportive direction. You are not less than and you are so deserving of relief. Take that first step. It’s the bravest one you’ll ever make. ❤️

Healing my Inner Child Wound involves showing love to the little girl in me who was hurt, neglected, and made to feel less than at far too young of an age. Inner child work is by far the hardest, most beautiful work I’ve ever witnessed and experienced. The Inner Child Kit is available to those looking to add spiritual support to their healing journey. This kit is filled with loving, protective stones to create a safe space for your Inner Being to play & heal freely. Message me to learn more✨

I have absolutely no idea what I’m doing most days, but God does it feel good to feel my humanness. You’re looking at a woman who spent years trying to hide and hate herself thinking THAT would find her happiness. Odd how we think, isn’t it? Perfectionism ruled over my brain until an anxious tornado was all that existed.

&My god, was that exhausting.

I felt like a shell of a person and I turned to alcohol to avoid it. I turned to self harm to numb it. I isolated and completely abandoned my higher Self.

I can’t begin to thank the Universe for who I am today. The struggles make the good days that much more vibrant.

There is hope, my sweet friends.

From darkness, always comes light. Hold on long enough to see it✨

Women are socialized from an incredibly young age to hide our bodies,

As we age, this socialization also teaches us to hide our voices, opinions, thoughts, feelings, basically our existence.

We become trained to sit down, shut up, and shrink in all settings we may seem “too much” for society’s gaze.

✨Divine Femininity✨ challenges you to stay soft, while still being heard. She encourages sensuality, fierceness, and compassionate nurturing simultaneously. She challenges society’s engrained socialization and reminds us of the beauty that is our Femininity✨

I love my body.

But I was taught to hate her, hide her, be embarrassed of her curves and indentations.

Screw that.
Seriously.
I cringe just thinking of it all.

I’m blessed to have a mom who provided me an alternative narrative: who told me to “flaunt it while you got it”, and never shamed me for my short shorts, my curves, or my chest.

Femininity is a God-given blessing, so why hide, shame, or demonize it?

Flaunt what your momma gave you, my female identifying humans!✨💖✨

You are so loved, and worthy, AND sexy. (& Yes, those can all happily coexist within you too).

✨Client Art✨

I love having the ability to utilize creative arts with clients.

Yesterday I had a stressed out teenage client who just didn’t want to “do” life.

I turned on Seether, her favorite artist, and I asked her to paint about it for me.

Many of my clients struggle with anxiety, which almost goes hand in hand with difficulty expressing needs and emotions.

Art has been a pathway for them to share their lives with me. Some write, some draw, some make extraordinary magazine collages.

My favorite part is their translation of the work to me. How thoughtful and creative they are.

Art, nature, music, pets. It’s all therapy & can be incredibly healing dependent on the client in front of you✨

We made it through the longest, darkest day of the year.

How heavy it’s all felt.

I remember the end of November thinking… “I’ll never make it”.

It’s been so dark and cold and the existential dread has been unbearable.

But I made it.
WE made it.

HALLELUJAH!
Praise God,
the Universe,
& Everything In Between.

Winter Solstice;
A reminder that light is coming, hope exists in everything, & even the darkest days end.

Today’s lighter than yesterday.

Tomorrow will be too.

& soon there will be more light than dark;

What a beautiful thing that is.

I love this photo.
I love her.

She still exists, you know.

Maybe she’s taller,
older,
her hairs longer.

But she’s still here.

The laughter, joy, true raw authenticity.

She’s still me.
I’m still her.

Especially on the hard days,
what a beautiful reminder that is.

The snow finally fell in La Crosse today. Instead of hibernating I decided to go run & jump around in the snow, pleasing my inner child. Lenny brings out the absolute best in me, the child in me☃️

Our challenge is to never lose that child who still exists within.

The one who longs to make snow angels and have snowball fights…to chase snowflakes and build a snowman.

If there’s anything I hope you hear, it’s this: build the damn snowman.

Frolic in the snow like you’re 10 again.

❄️I promise you won’t regret it❄️

What’s your favorite thing to do on a “Snow Day”?

There are so many misconceptions about therapy. I’m not here to advise you, solve your problems, or tell you when you’re wrong. I’m here to sit with you on your journey and explore what’s best for you. There’s this belief that therapists are experts of all things humanity….yes, we have book knowledge, experience, research…but we’re not the expert of YOU. Each client I meet is treated uniquely to their needs. I listen to what they’re struggling with, help them explore it, and shed a light on what their inner being already knows they need. Still can’t believe how lucky I am to witness it✨

Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD) is a type of depression that occurs in a recurrent seasonal pattern, typically starting in the Fall or early Winter when there is less exposure to natural light, and lasting through Spring.

Symptoms of SAD may include:
🌥Social withdrawal or “hibernating”
🌦Oversleeping
☁️Chronic fatigue, low energy
🌤Overeating, often leading to weight gain
⛈Feelings of sadness, hopelessness, and irritability

As someone who has experienced SAD since I was in my mid-teens, I’ve tried EVERYTHING to soothe my SADNess…. including moving across the country to California, thinking geographical change might help. (For those curious, my SAD did in fact still exist because of such things as May Gray & June Gloom.)

Things I make sure to prioritize are:
☀️Infrared Saunas
☀️Reading more, watching less
☀️Drinking lots of water
☀️Wearing my Fitbit to ensure I’m moving my body every hour
☀️Journaling: associating this season with a time for rest & reflection
☀️Snuggling my fur babies and treating myself to a new set of warm pajamas

As I remind all my clients, what works for me may not work for you. It’s important to explore options of coping to find what fits your needs.

Here’s what research finds most beneficial for persons struggling with SAD:
🌤Unplug from technology: too much screen time is associated with symptoms of depression and behaviors of avoidance. When it’s gloomy and cold out, it’s definitely easy to get sucked into your phone or tv. Try a book, craft, or hobby instead!
⛅️Vitamin D supplements: during these months, we’re exposed to less natural sunlight. Odds are, your SAD is correlated with a deficit of Vitamin D in your body.
🌤Body movement: our body’s desire to hibernate in the winter months lessens our daily physical exercise. Body movement is great for boosting mood due to the endorphins it releases. Get up to walk around every hour or do some gentle stretches to soothe your winter blues.
⛅️Whole foods: while beneficial all year round, whole foods provide our body the nutrients needed to feel energized and motivated. This helps beat seasonal fatigue and low energy.

How many of us are actually in tune with how we’re feeling?!

In a society that asks “how are you?” then walks away before hearing the answer…I see how hard it is for us to actually share what we’re feeling.

“Good”.
“Fine”.
“Can’t complain”.

How often are you surprised when someone says something other than those token responses?

I love teaching clients healthy emotional expression. The emotion wheel quickly becomes their best friend.

But also, how sad it is that I’m teaching adult clients what emotions are and how to express them.

There continues to be a clear dislike of emotionality within our society. Witnessing vulnerability continues to give many of us the “ick” leaving us each to navigate our emotions on our own.

Emotions are meant to be felt, expressed, shared. They create connection when expressed in healthy ways.

Suppressing or avoiding emotions leads to unhealthy reactions, strained relationships, even dangerous behaviors like violence and aggression.

We live in a world that continues to associate strength with being void of vulnerability, describing a person with emotions as “sensitive”, “weak” or “too much”.

We’re invalidating our very existence when we ignore our humanity.

Emotions are healthy things (all of them!) Expressing them is crucial to our mental health.

Check in with yourself today: How am I, really? What do I need? & Who can I talk to about it?

Drop a line below to tell me how you’re really feeling today✨
