How is everyone doing out there?

“Why do I feel like everything is too much?”
If you’ve felt this, you’re not alone.

For many neurodivergent individuals, especially those with ADHD, autism, or AuDHD, sensory overload isn’t about being dramatic or overreacting. It’s a nervous system response.

Some common signs of sensory overload include:
🎈 Heightened irritability
🎈 Trouble focusing
🎈 Physical discomfort
🎈 Heightened anxiety
🎈 Avoidance of gatherings
🎈 Sensory sensitivity (sounds, lights, textures, smells)
🎈 Trouble processing information
🎈 Difficulty communicating
🎈 Increased crying or emotional overwhelm

When your senses are overstimulated, even everyday environments can feel exhausting or unsafe. Your brain and body are signaling that they need a break, not that you’re failing.

Gentle reminder

Life is too short, and too important, to be driven or influenced by negativity or ill-will. In a world that is increasingly reactive, it’s a reminder to both find peace on the inside, and in connection with people you love and trust.

If the presence of someone makes you feel bad about yourself, that’s not the person you want to spend too much time with, and certainly not the one to go to for encouragement or comfort. Read the signs; the signs are in you. Do you feel stressed in their presence or relaxed and at ease? Your mind may tell you one thing, but check in with your body. You’ll feel it. Now trust it.

Next: act on that. Remember, you are the chooser, so choose people who support and nourish your soul, love you for who you are, and for the dreams you harbor. Be selective - it’s better to have a small number of real relationships than many transactional ones that drain your energy instead of replenishing it. We absolutely can be there for each other - but be discerning. When you protect your energy and invest it wisely, you get to watch it grow...
