Chiropractic was founded by Daniel David Palmer (D.D. Palmer) in 1895. Palmer, a self-taught healer, believed that spinal misalignments (subluxations) interfered with the body's natural healing abilities. He developed a technique of spinal manipulation, known as chiropractic adjustment, to correct these subluxations.
The first chiropractic adjustment is said to have been performed on September 18, 1895, in Davenport, Iowa, on a deaf man named Harvey Lillard. After the adjustment, Lillard's hearing reportedly improved. This event is considered the birth of chiropractic.
Palmer later established the Palmer School of Chiropractic in 1897, which became a major center for the development and spread of chiropractic. Today, chiropractic is practiced in over 120 countries worldwide.
Happy birthday chiropractic!!!!
