Rooted in Community, Dedicated to Care

Today we recognize Blake Gornowicz, MD, a hospitalist caring for patients in our MedSurg and ICU departments for over 10 years.

As a hospitalist, Dr. Gornowicz supports patients during their hospital stay—guiding care, coordinating treatment, and being present during some of life’s most critical and vulnerable moments.

Known by colleagues as a passionate advocate, he is never afraid to stand up for what’s right for his patients. Even in the most complex situations, he brings a calm, empathetic presence to the bedside—ensuring patients and families feel supported, heard, and cared for.

His compassion is especially evident in end-of-life care, where he takes great care to ensure comfort, dignity, and thoughtful communication every step of the way.

“He went above and beyond in a difficult situation… The compassion and care made all the difference.”

Thank you, Dr. Gornowicz, for the heart, advocacy, and dedication you bring to every patient you serve.

During the cancer journey, encouragement often comes from unexpected places — a meaningful book, a song that brought comfort, a favorite recipe on a difficult day, a piece of art, or even a simple phrase that helped you keep going.

Join us on Monday, April 13th at 5:00 pm at the GRH Mt. Emily Conference Room on the hospital's third floor for the GRH Cancer Support Group. If you can, bring the item(s) with you for a “show and tell” and share why it mattered. Together we’ll exchange ideas, stories, and sources of encouragement that helped carry us through — and may help someone else in the room.

Cancer impacts nearly every community—and the numbers are a powerful reminder why access matters. In the U.S., more than 2 million new cancer cases are diagnosed each year, with over 600,000 lives lost annually. But there’s also hope, survival rates continue to improve, especially when cancer is detected early and treated consistently.
The most common cancers—breast, lung, prostate, and colorectal—make up nearly half of all diagnoses. That’s why timely screenings, local access, and ongoing care are critical to outcomes.
At Grande Ronde Hospital, that level of care is available right here at home.
Through the GRH Hematology & Oncology Clinic, patients have access to advanced diagnostics, infusion therapy, and personalized treatment plans—without leaving the community.
Behind that care is a dedicated team focused on delivering expert, patient-centered treatment:
• Dr. Laura Talamo is committed to helping patients understand their diagnosis and care plan, emphasizing education and shared decision-making.
• Dr. Patrick Archie provides comprehensive oncology care with a focus on clear communication and individualized treatment planning.
• Lea Carpenter, AGNP-C supports patients throughout their care journey, helping coordinate treatment and ensuring continuity every step of the way.
Because when cancer care is close to home, it’s not just more convenient—it’s more connected. You don’t have to drive to receive excellent outcomes.

Preventive care saves lives—but only when it’s accessible.

At Grande Ronde Hospital, health equity means making preventive care easier to understand, easier to access, and easier to act on—right here in our community.

That includes helping you:
• Understand when and why screenings matter
• Stay on track with chronic condition management
• Access care close to home—without long drives or difficult travel
• Navigate appointments and follow-ups with confidence

We know barriers can get in the way—busy schedules, cost concerns, harsh weather, or simply not knowing where to start.

In a rural community, prevention means removing those barriers—so care fits into everyday life, not the other way around.

Because better health starts with the ability to take that first step—and knowing support is close to home.

Start with a primary care provider—talk with your care team about the screenings and preventive care that are right for you.

Waiting on test results can feel overwhelming—especially when you see them in MyChart before hearing from your provider.
Here’s what to know:
It’s completely normal to receive results before your provider has had a chance to review them. Some results are straightforward, while others require careful interpretation, comparison to your health history, or follow-up from your care team.
Not every result needs immediate action—but every result deserves the right context.
Your provider is taking the time to review your results thoroughly so you get clear, accurate information—not rushed answers.
Have questions about your results?
Send a message through MyChart or call your clinic—we’re here to help you understand what it all means.
