Illinois Association of Free and Charitable Clinics Equitable and high quality healthcare customized for the low income residents of Illinois

https://linktr.ee/iafcc

Free and charitable clinics provide essential primary medical and dental services, prescription medicine and access to diagnostic and hospital services for over 40,000 Illinoisans.

• There are over 50 free and charitable clinics in Illinois with combined
budgets of $50 million, including $18 million of in kind pharmaceuticals.
• Free and charitable clinics rely on private donations, non-gover

nmental
grants, volunteers and donated goods and services.
• So far, health reform has not considered free and charitable clinics, increasing their vulnerability.
• Medicaid cuts will lead more patients to depend on free and charitable clinics for essential health services. The IAFCC works toward a culturally and linguistically appropriate healthcare environment that provides free or affordable, high-quality health services that promote the elimination of health disparities among uninsured and underserved populations

On February 27, Dental Access Days — one of IAFCC’s newer members — hosted a powerful day of service, providing more than $28,000 in free dental care to 29 community members.
Sixteen volunteer providers made the event possible, including six first-time volunteers stepping up to serve. Many patients were connected through local partners supporting individuals experiencing homelessness and survivors of domestic violence in the north and northwest Chicago suburbs.

The clinic day was hosted at Harvest Bible Chapel and supported by generous industry and community partners who helped create a welcoming, well-equipped environment for both patients and volunteers.

Dental Access Days delivers care through event-based clinics, meeting patients where they are and expanding access one clinic day at a time.

If you’re a dental professional interested in volunteering — or would like to connect someone to future events — reach out to IAFCC here:

To close out Black History Month, we are proud to highlight members of the IAFCC Board of Directors — Black leaders whose work strengthens communities and advances health equity across Illinois.

Carol, President & CEO of The Night Ministry, shares:

"I am proud to stand in the gap for communities that have too often been underserved. I believe that all people have the ability to achieve beyond the scope of their current circumstances. And I believe that dignity, access to care, and stable housing are human rights."

Shawn, Executive Director of Will Grundy Medical Clinic, reflects:

"Black History Month is a time to honor the legacy, resilience, and enduring contributions of Black leaders who have shaped every sector of our society — including medicine and public health. We recognize pioneers such as Dr. Rebecca Lee Crumpler, the first Black woman physician in the United States graduating from Yale in 1864; Dr. Daniel Hale Williams, who performed one of the first successful open-heart surgeries; and Dr. Charles Drew, whose innovations in blood banking, transformed modern medicine. Their courage and commitment to equity laid the foundation for more inclusive healthcare systems.
As a free and charitable clinic, we recognize that access to care is a matter of justice. Free clinics play a vital role in the local public health system by serving as trusted access points for uninsured, underinsured, and vulnerable populations. We reduce preventable emergency room utilization, improve chronic disease management, support behavioral health, and connect patients to vital social services — strengthening the overall health of our community.

In the spirit of those who broke barriers before us, we remain committed to serving all people with dignity, compassion, and excellence — regardless of race, income, insurance status, or background. Health equity is not just a goal; it is our responsibility."

We are honored to serve alongside Black leaders who continue to stand in the gap, break barriers, and build a more equitable health care system.

This past weekend, we had the opportunity to visit The Hope Center, who joined IAFCC last year, and left inspired by their approach to care. This is more than a health clinic — it’s a hub of wraparound, community-centered services.

From free medical care and legal support to ESL classes, a clothing closet, and a food pantry with fresh produce grown on-site, The Hope Center tackles both health needs and the social factors that impact them — all under one roof.

We’re proud to have mission-driven organizations like this in the IAFCC network. This is what community-based care in action truly looks like.

02/23/2026

We’re thrilled to see IAFCC member Suzanne Hoban, Founder and Executive Director of Family Health Partnership Clinic, featured in Politico alongside Congressman Bill Foster!

This recognition highlights the vital work of free and charitable clinics in ensuring equitable access to care for underserved communities across Illinois. From providing essential health services to engaging with elected officials, Family Health Partnership Clinic exemplifies community-driven impact.
