H.I.Mentors is celebrating it's 20th anniversary in 2025! Thank you to all our past and current clients, colleagues, staff, friends, business partners, staff, volunteers, sponsors, educators, clinical practitioners, corporations, and anyone else who has support us through these years. We have worked with nearly 500 organizations, and spoken to or trained over 80,000 individuals. I have been blessed in my 40 year career and am especially proud of my literacy legacy triumph award for my book and my professional practice triumph award for my role in electronic document management from AHIMA as well as my faculty role as an adjunct assistant professor at the University of Illinois (my alma mater) where I have endowed a scholarship fun for future HIM students.

In this landmark year, I am taking more time with my family, and other businesses I am involved in and will be decreasing time spent in the HIM world. My website will be updated shortly to adjust to some of these changes. I will always be an active learner, educator, writer, speech giver, and HIM professional at heart, and will continue to take on some consultative work on a very limited basis. Cheers to those who continue on striving for the new roles and challenges of document and data integrity in the medical field. What a great time it is to make a difference in our future in health care administration. Thank you, Darice

Health Information managers coding and collecting data accurately lead to excellent informational charts used by the CDC and others to health guide health care policies, disease surveillance, and treatment protocols. How do you use this type of data in your environments to help educate and keep your community protected from the ravage of severe viral illnesses and overburdened medical workers and communities? Share and educate is the new norm.

As health information professionals - it is our ethical obligation to continue to educate others and dispel misinformation despite whatever societal and political pressures there are. The job has never been easy but it’s what we excel at - documenting the facts.

Proud to see states standing up and taking responsible action to ensure health care workers are fully vaccinated. We all need to be responsible for public health - the pandemic is not political.

Citing increasing COVID-19 hospitalizations and intensive care unit patients because of the delta variant, the California Department of Public Health issued an order Aug. 5 requiring workers in healthcare to be fully vaccinated.

Looking outside the US - countries like Israel are leading the way in scientific development and also being flexible with work, schools and social activities to respond to the cycle of spikes a pandemic brings. Thought this was an interesting article as our country attempts to battle the outbreaks still occurring.
