Let me be a testament to my own industry.
This is my back; another massage therapist gave me this bruise.
Was I thrilled about this? No. Was I expecting this? Only in the areas they did cupping, which my back was not one of those areas. So no I did not expect this bruise to be on my back.
Im not here to bash the therapist. I am here to help give you insight.
This is what happens when a therapist is in a hurry to get your muscles knots out. We are set to a timed session(60 minutes, 90 minutes, whatever you booked)- so naturally we want to do our best to get to all of your troubled areas and get the area under control.
But sometimes THIS is what happens in result of that. Did they injure me? No. As the area in my ribs were bound up really badly. My ribs are no longer locked up. Which when you are in a boney area this is very susceptible to happen. Was I sore as hell? Yes I’m still sore as I write this post.
It’s very important to find a therapist that adequately warms up the tissue in order to address the areas of concern. Or else bruises such as mine begin to develop. Which in turn is why our industry says it’s good to come once a week, or twice a month, etc. Your body starts to respond well to touch. Allowing your therapist to better serve your troubled areas. Our bodies get very use to someone’s touch so much so that it impacts your nervous system.
So please be mindful of how much you load upon your therapist to address. Because they just might end up bruising you horribly like this. We don’t mean to but unfortunately when our clients have expectations and say stuff such as “well I still feel it there; you didn’t get it.” We try to get as much out as we can but it will result in being rushed and forced to leave this on you.
I’ll be talking more about this on my blog post.
