Perfectionism Is Not Professionalism (Here’s the Difference)

You don’t need a psychology degree to spot a perfectionist.

They triple-check every caption.
Edit their emails seventeen times.
Delay launching because “it’s not polished enough.”

And these are the leaders.
The ones guiding others through mental wellness.
The ones who should feel safe to be real — but are afraid to show anything messy.

Here’s the kicker:

Perfectionism puts on a lab coat and pretends to be professionalism.**
But it’s not the same thing.

✅ Professionalism is doing your best with excellence.

❌ Perfectionism is fearing judgment if you're anything less than flawless.

One comes from love.
The other, from fear.

And you can feel the difference.
In your body.
In your inbox.
In your client delivery.

When you're professional, you finish things.
When you're a perfectionist, you delay things.

You say, “I just want it to be better.”
But what you really mean is:
“I don’t want anyone to see me unless I’m at 100%.”

But guess what?

Your clients don’t need perfect.
They need present.
They need progress.
They need permission@@ to be messy, too.

So hit publish.
Start that IG Live with notes in your lap.
Show up with eye bags and honest stories.

Because every time you show your humanness,
you give them hope that healing isn’t about looking polished —
it’s about showing up anyway.

Even cracked mirrors reflect light. ✨

Follow — where real leaders heal out loud.

You don’t need to personally go through a trauma to be affected by it.

Sometimes, just holding space for someone else’s pain...
Can feel like it sinks into your bones.

That’s called secondary trauma — and yep, it’s real.

It hits hard.
Especially for leaders, helpers, counselors, empaths.
The ones who are “strong” for everyone else.

So here’s your value tip for today:

Start naming it.

The moment you catch yourself carrying someone else’s story like it’s your own...
Say this out loud (or write it down):

👉 “This pain isn’t mine, but I’m here to witness it — not to absorb it.”

Sounds simple?
It’s everything.

Because the moment you name it,
You give your nervous system permission to stop treating it like your trauma.

You stop stuffing it in your body.
You start processing it with awareness.

This isn’t about being cold.
It’s about setting an energetic boundary — one that protects your empathy from becoming your undoing.

You can be compassionate without being consumed.

And if nobody told you lately?
You're allowed to care deeply and still protect your peace.

We need more leaders who are emotionally strong — but not emotionally drained.

If this hit close to home...

You’re allowed to be human, too.

“I’ll rest when everything’s done.”

Yeah?

And when exactly is everything ever done?

Let’s stop glorifying burnout like it’s a medal.
You don’t win anything by pushing until you crash — except maybe a hospital bill and emotional whiplash.

Here’s the myth that’s messing us up:
Rest is a reward.

Nope.
Rest is a requirement.

Your brain’s not a machine.
Your body isn’t a workhorse.
Even your phone gets 8 hours of charging — why do you expect yourself to run on fumes and still be “high-performing”?

Hustle culture told you you’re lazy if you slow down.
But here’s the truth:
Overworking is the real self-sabotage.

You’re not lazy for pausing.
You’re not weak for needing recovery.
You’re just human — and humans break when ignored too long.

So no, you don’t need to “earn” your rest.
You just need to protect it.

Because if you don’t…
Your body, your mind, and your peace will ask louder — until they scream.

Micromanage your tasks, sure.
But don’t micromanage your healing.

You’re not behind.
You’re just tired.

And that’s okay.

Why is your phone more productive than you? 😂

Be honest.

Every night, you plug it in and recharge...
But you? Running on caffeine, skipping meals, and mentally crashing by 3 PM.

Here’s the truth no one tells you:

Self-care isn’t bubble baths or weekend getaways.

It’s the boring daily stuff that quietly saves your life.

So here’s your simple tip for today:

Set a Non-Negotiable Rest Rule.

Examples:

* Sleep by 10 PM, no excuses
* 30-minute screen break after lunch
* Zero work chats after 7 PM

Why?

Because if you don’t set the boundary... burnout will.

And trust me, rest is cheaper when you choose it — not when your body forces you to stop.

I get it.

Especially if “being busy” feels like your entire personality.
But listen: productivity without energy is just burnout pretending to be success.

That’s not a flex.

So... what’s one non-negotiable rest rule you’re willing to commit to this week?

Drop it in the comments — no judgment here. 😅

And hey — if you need daily reminders that you’re a human, not a machine...

A licensed therapist with 12 years of experience.
Credentialed. Trusted. Booked solid.

But one night, she messaged me:
“Maybe I’m not the right person to do this anymore.”

She was emotionally exhausted.
Holding everyone’s stories —
but secretly crumbling under her own.

She thought being tired made her unfit.
She thought struggling quietly meant she was a fraud.

We sat.
We didn’t fix.
We just breathed.

And after a few weeks of rest + reconnection…
She emailed me:
“I feel like I remember who I am again.”

Same skills.
Same heart.
New compassion — this time for herself.

That’s the truth no one tells you:
The leaders who feel the most doubt
are often the ones who care the most deeply.

If this sounds like you,
you’re not alone.
You’re not behind.
And you’re not failing.

MYTH:
You shouldn’t be struggling if you’re helping others.

TRUTH:
You’re allowed to hold space — and still have your own hard days.

No one said you have to be the blueprint.
No one said you must be flawless to guide others.

Being human doesn’t disqualify you.
It grounds you.

It helps you speak from lived experience — not just theory.

You don’t need to earn your worthiness by being emotionally bulletproof.

The people you help?
They trust you not because you have it all figured out…
But because you get it.

So breathe.
Pause.
Reset.

And remember:
Struggling doesn’t mean you’re in the wrong field.
It means you’re real.
And the mental health field needs more of that.

07/11/2025

You hold space for others.
You support them through panic, burnout, trauma, grief.
You give them room to heal, cry, rest, recover.

But when it’s just you?
You question if you’re even allowed to lead.
Because lately, you’ve been the one feeling overwhelmed.
Dysregulated.
Disconnected.

You think:
“How can I help others when I can’t even fix myself?”

That thought?
That’s Imposter Syndrome.
And it’s one of the heaviest silent battles in the helping profession.

Here’s what most people won’t say out loud:
Being a mental health professional doesn’t mean you’re immune from struggle.
You’re not broken for needing what you give.
You’re not fake for having off days.

You’re human.
A human who listens deeply.
Who holds pain that’s not yours.
Who pours so much… that you forget to refill.

Imposter Syndrome creeps in when you’re tired — not unqualified.
It feeds on silence, shame, and the pressure to be “the strong one.”

But you know what’s stronger?
Saying:
“I’m doing the work, too.”
“I can lead and still be healing.”
“I am not less of a therapist, coach, or guide because I feel this way.”

You don’t have to be perfect to be powerful.
You don’t need to be fully healed to hold space.
You are not a fraud — you’re just full.

So please, stop disqualifying yourself.
Your story, your humanity, your realness — that’s what builds trust.

Let this post be your reminder:
You’re allowed to lead and still need support.
You’re allowed to teach self-regulation and still be learning your own rhythm.

That doesn’t make you weak.
It makes you real.

For reminders you deserve, too.

Confession time:

Even with everything I know — I still have those “What if I’m not good enough?” days.

You ever reread your own messages to clients and think:
“Okay, but who’s saying that to me?”

You post encouragement…
while battling self-doubt behind the scenes.

You tell others to set boundaries…
but ignore your own.

You’re not fake.
You’re overloaded.

You’ve been holding space for everyone…
but you haven’t had space held for you.

That stops now.

You deserve the same care you give.
The same compassion.
The same room to not be okay.

That doesn’t make you weak.
It makes you real.

And real leaders?
They’re exactly what this field needs more of.

MYTH:
You’re not qualified to lead if you still have bad days.

TRUTH:
Bad days don’t cancel your calling.

You are allowed to hold space for others and struggle in private.

You are allowed to need rest.
To second-guess.
To cry.
To pause.

None of that makes you a fraud.
It makes you human.

Let’s stop pretending wellness professionals are supposed to be emotionally bulletproof.

Your lived experience — even the messy parts — are why people trust you.

You don’t need to “fix” yourself to be worthy of respect.
You’re not a project.
You’re a presence.

And that is more than enough.

“You’re supposed to have it all together, right?”

You’re the one people come to when their world falls apart.
The one who holds space, asks the right questions, calms the storm.

But here’s what no one sees:
Some days, you feel like the one spiraling.

You smile during sessions…
but question your ability after the Zoom ends.

You give breakthroughs to others…
but silently wonder, “Am I even qualified to do this?”

Let me say this gently but clearly:
Feeling like a fraud doesn’t make you one.

It means you care.
It means you’re still human.
It means you're aware enough to self-check — and that's a gift.

You don’t have to be fully healed to be helpful.
You don’t need to be perfect to be powerful.

In fact — your vulnerability, your self-awareness, your realness?
Those are your leadership tools.
Not your liabilities.

You’re not a fraud.
You’re a human leader doing sacred work.

And if you need more reminders like this —
On the days the doubts get loud?

"But I’m supposed to be the strong one.”
Let’s flip that lie.

If you're always the “strong one” in everyone’s life…
let me say this with love:

That role will crush you if you never take off the costume.

Because strength isn’t about always holding it together.
It’s about knowing when to pause.
When to ask for help.
When to say “I need space.”

The truth?

You don’t need to earn rest.
You don’t need to break down first just to justify taking a break.

Burnout is not a badge.
It's a red flag.

You being tired doesn’t make you less of a leader, a friend, or a caregiver.

It makes you human.
And you deserve support, too.

So stop treating self-care like a luxury.

It’s a responsibility — to yourself.
Because no one wins when you’re running on empty.

She went from “emotional zombie” to feeling like herself again.

Ever felt like you're just going through the motions?

Smiling. Working. Showing up.
But deep down, you're running on fumes?

That was Anna.

Mental health professional.
Always holding it together.
Always showing up for others.

Until one day, she couldn’t.

She told me:

“I help so many people but I couldn’t help myself. I was just… numb.”

That’s compassion fatigue in real life.

It sneaks in.
And suddenly, the work that used to light you up... feels heavy.

So we made one shift:

Instead of giving everything to others,
she committed to giving just 10 minutes a day to herself.

Silent coffee mornings.
Gentle movement.
A post-it note that said: “I matter, too.”

In just 2 weeks, she messaged me again:

“I finally feel like me again.”

You don’t have to burn out to prove your heart.

Even the most selfless people deserve to be cared for —
starting with themselves.
