I love this reframing…

There’s no such thing as false labour. 🤭

Yep, you might find one evening things start niggling, there’s some twinges, you loose your mucous plug, have some tightenings, maybe it even feels like it’s really ramping up! You’re excited! You bounce around on your ball all evening, your partner cancels their plans, you run a bath, watch a funny film, do all the ‘early labour prep’ you’ve been planning! Then you both head to bed- to get some sleep & hopefully wake up ready to call the midwife! The following morning, you wake up.. and nothing! 😫 That evening the cycle repeats.. the following morning NOTHING! Now you’re feeling disheartened, tired, impatient, stressed 😬 it FEELS like ‘false labour’, someone might have even told you it’s ‘false labour’.. but it isn’t ❤️

Allow me to reframe things for you. Every single moment of pregnancy- your baby and your body are preparing for birth. Every single minute that passes is one minute closer to meeting your baby. In the last few days of pregnancy there’s so much going on in there that we can’t see from the outside that needs to happen before your baby is born; just because it’s ‘stopping & starting’ or moving slowly, doesn’t mean your body isn’t doing exactly what it’s supposed to! These early surges might be encouraging your baby to rotate into the right position; they might be helping your baby tuck their chin down & align themselves for birth; they might be moving your baby further down into your pelvis; they might be causing your cervix to soften, draw forwards, shorten, or begin to open.. you’re doing everything right!

So if this is you in a few months time, a few days or maybe even as your read this- you’re already one minute closer to meeting your baby 💪🏻 this is one minute you’ll never do again and SOMETHING in there has changed! Things ARE always moving forward! And it WILL reach a point where the starting doesn’t stop, until you have your gorgeous baby in your arms!

I thought I made too much broth this week. Was just going to do a test batch and deliver a little to one of my postpartum clients to help nourish for their impending labor, but then a birth AcuDoula called and said she was sick. Perfect! Dropping off broth and herbs before I start my mini-vacation weekend. This way, I take care of them and myself. Enjoying some off-call time before the spring babies come. I really am loving my life and taking care of those who choose me to be part of their journey!

Some days....
I was sitting here thinking of all the things I could share about finding motivation when you’re overwhelmed, grabbing an extra cup of coffee when you’re tired, about digging deep and finding that extra something to keep you going.... then I remembered I was human, worthy of grace, rest, and the occasional nap when I can find it.
Building my practice while being a parent and nursing, and not sleeping through the night for 9 months straight is hard, and I will be kind to myself on this journey.
I hope you are reminding yourself that you too are worthy of that grace as well.

Before Sage started waking me in the middle of the night, it was my vision for Root and Soul that would wake me at all hours. Now, even after midnight nursing sessions, I still doze with thoughts of patients and clients, appropriate formulas and protocols.
Even as I continue to heal myself, I am still feeding my passion with an Aerobiome Mastery Course, a Cesarean Scar Remediation Course, and digging deep in a mastermind of entrepreneurial parents. I truly love filling my tool box with skills and information to help others achieve their health and family goals... this is a hunger that is never sated, I don't know how to not work.
I really do feel like I have two babies some days, although Sage definitely gets his share of attention, Root and Soul is also being lovingly tended to every day.

When I think about my motivations, I am grateful for having such a long list of people to thank for motivating me on my path as a Doctor of Chinese Medicine, as a Birth Worker, as a Business Owner.... I could go on and on. The parents who have inspired me, the musicians that keep me singing and writing. I want to make this a weekly theme and start out with this challenge creator who makes me want to write and share my passion with the world.
Sarah Kathleen Peck, Writer created a podcast as she was searching for answers on her parenting journey that has had me addicted since I discovered it in early 2019. Her passion for writing and connecting the dots on the journey of parenting and the entrepreneur experience has encouraged me to play a larger part in my story than I dared to before. I had the immense pleasure to join her mastermind community for the past 9 months, which happened to be some of the craziest months of my life as I was launched into my motherhood journey, cradling both my baby and my practice with not enough hands. I was able to reach out to others who had traveled similar paths and find encouragement and motivation when my focus allowed me to peer into the world at large.
So this morning I'd like to say thank you to Sarah, the team and . Just a few of the folks that have motivated me on my journey to help others.

I had to hunt for a selfie for this post.

For the past six months my phone has been nearly all Sage all the time.
He has me on a schedule, up at 6am every day. We spend some quiet time and I think on my postpartum journey. How it hasn't gone as planned, not how I would encourage others to plan, two months early. I had no broths in the freezer, no herbs on hand that I had planned to have at the ready.
I have pieced together my postpartum healing over the past several months, often having to remind myself to take advantage of the tools I provide for others, reminders of my own importance during the journey that is the creation of a parent.

I held no illusions of the difficulty of the journey, and there are so many moments of exhaustion, isolation and sadness. Each valley is followed up with immense joy at the privilege of having this journey to take. Each smile and giggle from Sage reminds me of the importance of my own journey.

The hours I spend away from my son to assist others on their journeys to better health or parenthood are inspired by my own, just as much as by the medicine I have the privilege to practice. Everyday is one in which I find and for myself.

Music has been a passion of mine since I was a toddler. I've always sang, I remember mimicking Whitney Houston on the radio at a very young age. My love of music was one of the things that made me want to settle in San Diego. Once here, I was fortunate enough to encounter a little group called XIV ( ) and before I knew it, I was creating songs with some of the most talented people I've ever had the privilege to create with. We started another project called Sunday Hustle, and later returned to XIV for a total of 2, soon to be 3 albums that I have written and vocalized on.

My musical family grows and inspires me every year, and I'm honored to be part of it.

This creativity fuels me and helps me make sense of the world when I struggle to understand what's up from down.
