Dear Friends of New Day Counseling Center,

With prayerful reflection and deep gratitude, we write to share that New Day Counseling Center will be concluding its services at the end of this year, with our final day of operation set for November 30, 2025.

This decision comes after much discernment by our leadership and Board of Directors. While it is difficult to close this chapter, we trust in God’s continued work through the seeds sown during our time serving this community. For 15 years, New Day has been a place of Christ-centered healing, hope, and restoration. We have been blessed to partner with churches to offer biblically based mental health services, educational workshops, and conferences. We are honored to have walked alongside so many individuals and families on their journey toward emotional and spiritual wholeness.
As we prepare to close, we want to share some important information about the transitions of our therapy team:

Karen Mejia, LMFT and Char Taty-Scheck, LMFT will be continuing their work in mental health as sole proprietors in private practice. They can be contacted directly at:

Char Taty-Scheck, LMFT 619-940-9504 or char@rootedhopecounseling.net

Karen A. Mejia, LMFT 619-807-0854 or karen@CouchConnection.org

Renee Prueitt, AMFT will remain with New Day through the end of our term, continuing to serve clients with the compassion and excellence she is known for.

Theresa Warren-Johnson has transitioned her gifts and services to The Center for Family Unity where Tri-Care and other insurances are offered. For more information, go to www.thecenterforfamilyunity.com

We are incredibly thankful for your trust, prayers, and support throughout the years. The mission and heart of New Day have always been rooted in the belief that true healing comes from the love and grace of Christ — and we remain confident that this truth will continue to guide the work of our team as they step into new chapters.

Should you have questions or wish to connect, please don’t hesitate to reach out to us at newdaywomenscenter@gmail.com

With sincere gratitude and faith,

Recently, Phyllis Long, our New Day founder and director, was a guest on the Podcast. She enjoyed her time with host Kevin Miller and Matt Hall sharing Neuropathway Freedom and her story of Hotel Lobby Evangelism.

Sent 315 is a podcast dedicated to helping every day Christians share the Lord with the people in their lives, in a way that's natural to their God-given personality and style.

Have you heard of Circle TLC Ranch? Our Therapy Team took a field trip last week to visit and learn about their unique Equine Assisted Therapy program. We discussed partnership opportunities and met the special horses, who help bring healing to many.

It was genuinely a moving experience for all of us as TLC's Tammy walked us through activities with our "furry therapists." As shared on their website, the Ranch "offers a safe place for children, teens, and adult women who have experienced trauma and abuse, struggle with mental health conditions, or simply seek an escape from the challenges of daily life... our horse therapy program helps promote self awareness, breakthrough and healing. Merry Christmas to you and your loved ones, from our team here at New Day! Holidays can be wonderful for some and very difficult for others.

No matter what yours looks like this year, may you find parts of peace and joy in birth of Jesus! He truly brings hope to all people. He is Immanuel, God with us; and also one of us. By Him we are saved and restored in our relationship to Him.

"For to us a child is born, to us a son is given, and the government will be on His shoulders. And He will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace. Of the greatness of His government and peace there will be no end." - Isaiah 9:6-7

We hope you have had a blessed holiday.

It’s mid-way in the Holiday season! How is everyone doing!?

Has this year’s festivities been more joyful or stressful? For many of us, it’s often a crazy combo of both.

Our New Day director and therapist, Phyllis, put together a great resource for those experiencing feeling more stressed than joyous. In it, she provides practical tips for how we can “Take Back the Holidays with Intentional Planning!”

November was a busy month! We celebrated Adoption Awareness, Pregnancy Prematurity Awareness Month, and Career Development Month.

Here's a recap in case you missed out on any of the excitement:

👧Adoption Awareness Month
Adoption is a beautiful and fulfilling path that changes both the adoptive parent and the child's life forever. This year we learned about how more than 1 in 5 children in foster care are teens (ages 13-17). They're at a higher risk of aging out of the foster care support system without any family connections.

🤰 Pregnancy Prematurity Awareness MonthNovember was also a time to learn about the state of maternal and infant health care for preterm babies. The focus this year was on the importance of immediate skin-to-skin contact. When we know more, we can better advocate for ourselves and our precious preterm babies.

🧑‍💼Career Development Month
Finally, we observed November as a time to engage with career planning and self-discovery.

If any of these topics are impacting your life right now and you'd like a session to talk with a counselor, click the link in our bio to contact us today.

Tomorrow, November 28 marks Giving Tuesday, an annual day dedicated to generosity for good. This special day has become a global movement and mark for us to support different organizations in their great missions. We encourage you to take part and would be honored if you choose us to support with your donation.

Over the years, we've served hundreds of women, teens, couples, and children with therapy, speaking events, resources, and more. We do this at an affordable rate and make continuous efforts to provide scholarships, because we believe our services should be as accessible as possible.

Your support is needed and what makes it possible for us to offer faith-based therapy to the community of San Diego and beyond.

As we head into Giving Tuesday tomorrow, please consider making a one-time or recurring donation to help us continue to reach more people with God’s loving compassion and professional mental health support.

All donation amounts are welcomed and appreciated.🙏 Click the link in our bio for ways to give.

Tips to Grow Gratitude Part 4

Did you know your mood is largely shaped by your thoughts and you can reorient them towards gratitude for an instant boost?

Here are 2 final tips to tap into a state of gratefulness:

🛑 Take a Pause
If you find whole days often slip by without so much as a moment of quiet mindfulness, it's probably time to start there. Taking a mindful pause to appreciate something even as small as your first sip of coffee can completely reset your day.

Philippians 4:6 says "Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God." This passage calls us to drop our worries and take note of our blessings.

🧘🏾‍♀ Anchor Yourself to the Present Moment
Few things can bring instant gratitude like becoming present, and using your senses is the perfect tool to get there. Step outside to feel the sunshine on your skin or the breeze in your hair and listen to the sounds around you. Just through using your senses, you can fully engage with your environment and tap into joy and gratitude.

By practicing the tips in this series, you can slowly evolve into a more loving and peaceful person. Nothing good comes easy but the path is worth it.
