As a professionally licensed massage therapist I get the chance to help people improve their quality of life. Everyone should be proactive in their health and massage is a great preventative care tool. Whether you are just starting to feel the aches and pains of life or have been suffering for years, take action now. These ailments left untreated worsen and eventually cause bigger issues. With my

clients I try to go above and beyond just the massage. I help educate people on stretching and strengthening to further improve their sessions and quality of life. Watching for postural trends and reeducating clients on proper posture is also a very important part of what I do to help ensure ailments don't worsen. I believe in the importance of using not only massage but stretching, strengthening, and educating together to create a wellness plan designed for each individuals needs.

January 2, 2026 marks a major milestone - the grand opening of Bodywork by Bobbi Wellness’ new office! I’ve dedicated countless hours over the last month to make this dream a reality. When I first started Bodywork by Bobbi in 2012, my goal was to introduce clinical massage therapy to La Mesa, Ca. At the time, orthopedic bodywork was typically confined to chiropractic offices with harsh environments. I envisioned a more relaxing atmosphere, which is why Bodywork by Bobbi Wellness blends advanced massage techniques with a serene spa setting.

What is it and why is it important?

Lymphatic Drainage Massage should follow cosmetic surgical procedures, like a tummy tuck or mommy makeover. These specialized massages help reduce bruising and inflammation following surgery. They also help shorten the recovery period. It is important to setup your post-op appointments as soon as possible. Scheduling several short appointments the first weeks following surgery and then tapering off as you heal.

A lymphatic massage should not be confused with a traditional one. A post surgical lymphatic massage focuses on the superficial layers of the skin to improve the function of the lymphatic system.

Wave-like, rhythmic very light strokes are used to open and close lymphatics, enabling areas with excess fluid to drain out. A lymphatic massage also stimulates the nervous system, leading to relaxation. It can also help reduce muscle fatigue, bruising, swelling, and delayed onset muscle soreness.

One of the greatest misconceptions of massage therapy is the concept, “no pain, no gain”

Don’t get me wrong, there is a time and place for deeper work but the idea that our work needs to cause you pain to be effective is so outdated.

Many techniques such as MFR, MLD and PNF stretching are on the milder side and are proven incredibly effective.

Some modalities can be uncomfortable especially if injury is present and sometimes there can be pain during the rehab process due to damaged tissue.

But I’ll say it again, deeper is not equivalent to better. 💜

One of the most common causes of back pain is bad posture. Forward head posture, rounded shoulders, anterior pelvic tilt, oh my!

Posture plays a huge role in how we feel. So, how does massage therapy and bodywork help? When our bodies form to an incorrect posture, imbalances occur. Muscles lengthen or shorten causing sprain/strain and tension. Restoring function and range of motion is our focus while at home proper posture is worked on.
