Being back in the classroom for the Philadelphia Mini Residency in 72 hours makes me think back to the energy in Chicago... ✨

The Chicago Midwinter buzz is still going. The energy was electric after so many "lightbulb" moments at the booth and the incredible response to Dr. Kristina Wolf’s sold-out lecture. As a parent, it’s easy to focus on how straight your child's teeth look, but a narrow palate (that high, "V-shaped" roof of the mouth) is about much more than a future need for braces. When the upper jaw is constricted, it creates smaller nasal passages that make it physically harder for your child to breathe through their nose.

This lack of space forces the tongue to drop back into the throat, which often leads to snoring and restless sleep. Instead of getting the deep rest they need to grow, their brain stays in a state of "fight or flight" just to keep their airway open.

By addressing a narrow palate early, we aren't just fixing a smile; we are opening the airway and helping them breathe, sleep, and thrive.

April Fools' Day is for pranks, but a beautiful smile masking a compromised airway is no joke!

As dental and healthcare professionals, we’ve all seen it: a patient with Class I occlusion and a "perfect" aesthetic result who is still struggling with chronic headaches, mouth breathing, or daytime fatigue.

TMJ & Sleep Therapy Centre International is a leader in the field of continuing education, training and resources for the dental healthcare profession. Dr. Olmos graduated from the University of Southern California School of Dentistry, and has dedicated the past 30 years to the fields of craniofacial pain, and sleep-related breathing disorders for adults and children. He has extensive post graduate education and board certifications in both craniofacial pain and dental sleep medicine.
