KNOW THE SIGNS: 1 in 3 teens in the U.S. will experience physical, sexual, or emotional abuse by someone they are in a relationship with, and SD County has been identified by the FBI as a top destination for human trafficking in the U.S. But these types of violence and exploitation can be prevented when teens, families, and communities work together.

Join us on Thursday, April 16th from 5-6:30 PM to learn from local law enforcement and human services agencies about how to identify risk factors, respond to survivors in need of support and assistance, and encourage safe and healthy relationship behaviors and online activity. RSVP by calling 619.825.5010, emailing library@grossmonthealthcare.org, or visiting us in person to let us know you'll be in attendance.

Today, March 16th, is Freedom of Information Day - a day reminding the public of their right to access information related to their interests, ensuring transparency and civic trust.

Part of this is being able to access reliable health information. While Google searches, AI results and ChatGPT answers might be convenient, they often make mistakes and should not be used in place of proper medical advice.

At GHD's Health & Wellness Library, we are here to help! Our Library staff is trained to be able to help you navigate both online and print resources to find the right type of information, supporting your freedom to make more informed health decisions.

We still have some openings for our afternoon Memory Cafe on Thursday, March 19 at 1 p.m. RSVP per the flyer below:

About the library

The Dr. William C. Herrick Community Health Care Library is operated by the Grossmont Healthcare District to meet the health information needs of local residents. It is a comprehensive consumer health library that is free, open to the public, and accessible via the Internet. The Library provides access to the latest medical information from authoritative and reliable sources, in both print and electronic formats. The collection includes books, journals, newsletters, pamphlets, DVDs, models, charts, online computer databases, and its website with extensive links covering all major health topics. The Herrick Library is a public library and offers many free services. It has 10 public computers (8 PCs and 2 iMacs). Library cards are issued with appropriate ID to community residents as well as those who work, go to school, or have health-related ties to the Grossmont Healthcare District (East County region of San Diego). The Library is named in memory of the late Dr. William C. Herrick, who served as a member of the Grossmont Healthcare District board of directors from November 1994 until the time of his death in March 1998. Dr. Herrick devoted his life to the improvement of the Grossmont Healthcare District and to the health of residents of San Diego's East County.
