Big congrats to Dr. Sainsbury for being inducted into the American College of Dentists. This recognition is a great honor and we are grateful for Dr. Larin for sponsoring him. We were able to celebrate with Dr. Jeff Brockett and Dr. Sussi Yamaguchi also from San Diego. Seeing Dr. Bob Hanlon and having his support was great.

We had a great time at the San Diego County Dental Foundation Gala at the Mission Bay Resort to raise money for the John Geis dental clinic. This event gives guests an opportunity to help the clinic continue to provide essential dental care to those in need in our area. We enjoyed spending time with great people and seeing so many of our wonderful dental colleagues. Cheers to a great one this year and we can’t wait for next year’s event!

👂🏽Ringing in your ears? It might not just be your ears…it could be your jaw.

Dr. Sainsbury recently had the honor of being invited to UCSD and present how he helps patients manage both jaw pain and ear symptoms.

He’ll be joining a team of doctors and biomedical engineers on a research project to further study this connection and improve treatment options. 👨🏻‍⚕️🦷

This work is a great example of how the field of Orofacial Pain is bridging the gap between medicine and dentistry, bringing together expertise from both worlds to transform patient care. 💙

If your ‘TMJ pain’ hasn’t responded to typical treatments, it might not be your jaw joint at all. Not all facial pain is dental- some cases are actually neuralgias, which are nerve-related conditions that feel like electric shocks, burning, or stabbing pain.

Neuralgias- like trigeminal or glossopharyngeal-can mimic TMJ or dental issues and has been known to be called the ‘suicide disease.’

Orofacial Pain specialists are trained to diagnose and manage nerve pain, often brining relief when other treatments have failed.

Although ‘TMJ’ is the most common condition identified by patients, it is a component of craniofacial pain which also includes chronic head and facial pain, recurrent headaches, migraines and neck pain.
