A Flood Watch has been issued for Orange County for late Saturday through Monday evening.

Today’s weather might not show it, yet a Flood Watch will be in effect in Orange County by the National Weather Service, from late Saturday night through Monday evening as Tropical Cyclone Hilary makes its way toward Southern California’s coast.

Orange County expecting to see over 2 inches of rainfall late Saturday through Monday, with slightly more in the foothill and mountain areas. Excessive stormwater runoff may result in flooding of rivers, creeks, streams, and other low-lying and flood-prone locations. Additionally, strong winds are also expected as early as Sunday evening.

OC Public Works crews have been clearing roadsides, storm drains and culverts to minimize potential stormwater impacts to roads, particularly in the unincorporated canyon communities. We will be monitoring conditions during the weekend and ready to respond to storm-related issues as needed to keep roads open.

Please know that conditions could change if a thunderstorm impacts the area and residents should remain vigilant as conditions can change quickly. Mudslides may also be possible in some areas.

Here’s what you can do to prepare for the coming weather conditions:

- Sign up to receive emergency notifications via phone text, calls or emails at www.AlertOC.com

- Visit https://bit.ly/3CovB7r for sandbag information

- Stay out of creeks and riverbeds during rain storms, as they become very dangerous with increasing amounts of water that move very quickly. Just a few inches of moving water can knock you down, and one foot of moving water can sweep your vehicle away.

- Do not walk, swim or drive through flood waters. Turn around, Don’t drown!

- For official weather sources, you can also monitor www.weather.gov/sandiego

As we age, getting enough of it can be more challenging. If you wake yourself up when you snore, if your aches and pain interrupt your sleep, or if you just plain never get a restful night of sleep, talk to your doctor. Together, you can find a way to get some quality zzz’s. If you’ve noticed sleep is a problem for you, keep a notepad by your bed and write down your symptoms. That way, when it’s time to see your doctor, you can easily talk about what might be keeping you up.

This year, we want to inspire families to team up and learn how to protect their vision together! Many eye diseases have no early symptoms. But the good news is that regular comprehensive dilated eye exams can help adults age 50 and older protect their vision by catching eye diseases and conditions early when they’re easier to treat.

We need your help in getting the word out about vision and aging.

Take care to avoid putting yourself in danger if rescuing someone from water. If you pull someone from the water and they are unresponsive, follow these steps:

1. Check for breathing. Tilt their head back and look, listen and feel for breaths. If they are not breathing, move on to the following steps

2. Tell someone to call 999 for emergency help – if an AED is available, ask someone to get it but don’t delay starting CPR

3. Give five rescue breaths: tilt their head back, sealing your mouth over their mouth. Pinch their nose and blow into their mouth. Repeat this five times

4. Give 30 chest compressions. Push firmly in the middle of their chest and then release. Repeat this 30 times

5. Give two rescue breaths then continue with cycles of 30 chest compressions and two rescue breaths until help arrives or the casualty shows signs of becoming responsive

6. If the casualty starts to breathe normally, keep them still and treat for hypothermia by keeping them warm and dry if possible
