The O.G.'s that started my home business. I was hanging out with my family one afternoon, just thinking of ways to express myself creatively, help others, and perhaps bring in a few extra bucks. I had dabbled in crochet pot holders and stuff on Etsy and tried running a mom blog, but I wanted something more. I still crochet occasionally and I still write for my blog, it's not only mom stuff now though.
We were listening to old country music and for some reason I said "this song would be awesome in a horror movie", it was the song "The Happiest Girl In The Whole U.S.A" by Donna Fargo. I have no idea why I had that thought or the immediate preceding thoughts of an amazing soundtrack for a horror movie with nothing but old country songs - yes, I have created a playlist. In the course of an hour I had day dreamed a plot and kept running it through my mind. In one part the unsuspecting victim gets a whiff of something muskey, which tips her off to the lurking madman (or woman 😏, one day I'll write a screenplay or a book because I still think about the story line I've created 😂) and she is able to escape. Then something clicked in a big way. I frantically opened Etsy, looked up horror movie perfume. There was none. None at all. I searched different variations of wording and even googled different things to see if there were any big name brand companies doing anything like what I had all of the sudden fixated on. I wanted to create a perfume that was essential oil based, with no extra additives and if I could help people in the mean time, that would be amazing! Another big plus, if you couldn't tell by the names of the stuff I have created, I love watching scary movies. Halloween is my favorite so I started with Mr. Myers, whose roller bottle is aptly named "Boogeyman" and then moved on to Freddy - "Chase Your Dreams"... And BOOM! something else clicked! Freddy Krueger likes to hang out in people's dreams... People have issues falling asleep .. chamomile and cedar are helpful with sleep issues, I thought, pulling on the little bit of herbalism I had studied. I felt excited, more excited than I had been in a while to make that connection. Next up was Jason - "Happy Camper" and again I thought if I could pair an oil that sparked a bit of happiness, that would be awesome! So followed Ghost Face with "Feelin' Woozy". I knew that peppermint was good for feelings of nausea so I created a blend that would help if someone had an upset stomach, but also smells like Christmas! Creating multiple sets of roller bottles, taking into consideration their names, the genre and they way they should smell has been a very fulfilling experience. This was also the platform that helped me dive headfirst into herbalism, because I wanted to do more for people and to learn more about plants and how and why they help people. When I first opened my apothecary I was trying to juggle two different accounts and shops (my other one was called Ghoulish Intentions) and ultimately decided to combine them under my apothecary and save my Ghoulish Intentions account for a podcast 😂 because I've got big dreams! I have quite the collection of roller bottles and more planned because it has evolved from strictly horror to mostly horror with some other iconic movies thrown in there. My names might be a little cooky, my brand might be a little spooky and some might say it's a little too niche-y to gain any traction, but I love it with my whole heart and soul. If you have found my page, I truly appreciate you accepting my weirdness in all of its glory, it makes me the happiest girl in the whole USA.. See what I did there 😂🖤✌️
