Meet Your Instructor Monday!
This Monday we would like to introduce Sonja. Sonja teaches Working Your Asana Off, Strike a Pose, Vinyasa Flow and Children's Yoga. You can catch a class with her on Wednesday, Thursday or Friday. You will love her style and her grace as she guides you through amazing flows!
What is your favorite pose and why? Fallen Triangle - It builds strength, stability in the arms, shoulders and core. It's a good prep for more advanced arm balances. And it's fun!
What is your favorite type of class and why? Vinyasa - I was always high strung and anxious up until I began teaching. Preparing & instructing a challenging flow levels me out, similar to an antidote. It also allows me to be as creative as I wish with sequences. I enjoy offering athletic and vigorous practices that challenge students as well as myself.
What inspired you to become a yoga teacher? I was inspired to become a yoga teacher for many reasons;
first, my teacher instills awe in her students, including me. What she can do with her body is extraordinary. I already saw the physical benefits of yoga in myself, then came the mind. Not the reason I signed up, but yoga took its effect, anyway. I had bouts with depression and anxiety from high school and in the continuing years. Yoga, if I could manage, became my way to heal certain parts of my thinking patterns and my behaviors. It has made such a radical shift in my life. I still go through challenging times, but I know whatever it is, I can handle it. Yoga taught me that. I already had an honest desire already to help people, so when the opportunity arose to possibly have the ability to teach yoga, I jumped on it. I was not going miss out this time. Like the other times I did not try or give up before I even started. Not this time. I truly want to share with others what has helped me. I am a relatively new teacher, so, I have some work to do. I highly respect yoga and it's teachings. It has helped change life from meaningless and numb to purpose driven.
