The Honey Agate was established in 2018 from a little room in the back of my house that we turned into a quiet space for clients interested in healing energy work. We purchased the building at 301 Main St about a year later and started on a {variety} of projects - but the first was to create a little nook for The Honey Agate to move into and here we’ve been ever since.
Energy Work is an inclusive term for practices with the foundational understanding that everything, including our bodies, is made up of energy. Blocked or unbalanced energy can result in stress or physical discomfort. Healers use their hands or focus their energy to help clear stagnant energy, restore balance, and support the body’s natural healing process, helping clients feel more relaxed, centered, and vibrant. Reiki is one form of energy work and is what my formal training was based in. Intuitive Readings are a way of connecting to a person’s energy and receiving messages or insights that might not be immediately obvious in areas like relationships, career, or personal growth. It's not about predicting the future, but about offering guidance or understanding from another perspective. Both practices focus on connecting with the unseen but felt energy that surrounds us and using that connection to help people heal or find clarity.
My personal spiritual beliefs are grounded in this work however my clients come from a variety of backgrounds and belief systems and for me it is less about these specifics and more about the intentions we call into each session.

Laura lives at Ridge Farm, a small acreage outside of La Porte City, with her husband and four children, where they raise beef and operate a mule-breeding program. Laura works for the University of Northern Iowa at the Center for Energy and Environmental Education. She was born and raised in this community, and her deep-rooted connection drives a passion for seeing it thrive - not only in the local economy but also in artistic and thoughtful creation, fostering kinship, and nurturing a sense of belonging for all here - and this begins and grows with individual and personal healing.
A honey agate is a variety of agate, a type of banded quartz, known for its warm, golden-yellow to amber color. It is considered a grounding stone and is believed to have various metaphysical properties, such as promoting emotional healing, stability, and a sense of calm. Its soothing color and gentle energy are often associated with nurturing and supporting growth, both physically and emotionally.
These little stones are about a billion years old and were brought to this part of the country with glacial ice around 10,000 years ago. A person can walk just about anywhere along the Cedar River and find a honey agate - glowing golden in the sand. As a child, Laura’s grandpa Don taught her how to hunt them – if you know how to look, they’re easy to spot because “the sun shines through them”.
