Prior to opening his practice here in Southern California, Lawrence worked for many years as the surgical recovery team massage therapist at the San Joaquin Rehabilitation Hospital in Central California. He continues to serve as a massage instructor at professional massage schools and workshops nationwide. In addition to the basic Swedish and traditional massage therapy modalities,
Lawrence has ex
pertise in the following highly skilled medical massage techniques:
Zen Shiatsu: This style was originally developed by Shizuto Masanuga, who proposed the treatment of meridian extensions beyond those recognized in the classical Chinese view. Lawrence has mastered the demanding methods of this this widely-accepted two-handed massage style; using tne moving hand to apply pressure while the other hand provides stationary support. Trigger Point Therapy: This therapy involves the application of pressure on tender trigger points in the muscles to relieve pain and tension. The method, also known as Myotherapy or Neuromuscular Therapy, applies concentrated finger pressure to "trigger points" (painful irritated areas in muscles) to break cycles of spasm and pain. This technique has proven particularly effective in helping clients with carpal tunnel or other repetitive motion injuries. Tuina: Pronounced "tway-nah" the word literally means "push and grab" in Chinese and is a form of Chinese manipulative therapy. In China, the term "tui" means to push and "na" refers to a squeezing and lifting technique. An ancient and well-known form of medical massage in its native land, Tuina first appeared in Ming Dynasty medical texts. Tuina uses several different hand techniques like pressing, rubbing, waving, shaking, percussion or manipulation. The time, expense and difficulty of getting properly trained in this technique by Dr. Lowe of Bejing, China has proven its worth to Lawrence's loyal clientele, who say they have benefitted greatly from the unique style, particularly those seeking relief from migraine headaches, hip and knee replacements and joint injuries.
