Individuals with hearing loss can safely hit the road... with the right precautions. Here are some tips for driving with hearing aids:

1️⃣ Double-Check Your Hearing Aids: Before starting your engine, make sure your hearing aids are clean, functional, and properly inserted.
2️⃣ Eliminate Distractions: Minimize in-car distractions like loud music or unnecessary conversations that can make it harder to hear essential sounds on the road.
3️⃣ Use Your Side Mirrors: Keep a keen eye on your surroundings through your side mirrors. Visual cues are vital when you can't hear everything.
4️⃣ Keep Windows Closed: Roll up your windows to reduce wind noise and make it easier to hear important sounds inside your car.
5️⃣ Check for Emergency Vehicles: Regularly scan for flashing lights and sirens, especially at intersections. Pull over and let them pass.
6️⃣ Use Hearing Aid Accessories: Some hearing aids come with accessories like remote microphones, which can improve your ability to hear conversations within the car.

Remember, safe driving is all about being attentive and aware of your surroundings. Hearing aids can greatly enhance your driving experience, but they should complement your safe driving practices.

Did you know AHB has two audiology assistants? Our assistants, A***n and Katie, attended a conference to further develop their expertise. While in Washington, DC, the audiology assistants stated their biggest takeaways were gaining more knowledge about Phonak products and apps, as well as the new Redux dehumidifier. Katie and A***n are becoming increasingly familiar to patients as they troubleshoot hearing aids, perform cleanings, provide instructions on hearing aid cleaning and care, and facilitate Bluetooth connections. They are able to provide efficient services!

The AHB audiologists spent the day on The Hill conferring with Maryland Senate and House Representatives to discuss the MAAIA legislative bill, which aims to provide patients with direct access to audiologists. It was a productive day and we look forward to sharing the details with you upon our return.
