If you’ve ever been to our office you’ve most likely walked in and been greeted by the smiling face of our receptionist Erika. She is warm, friendly and so wonderful to talk to!

Erika’s warmth and happiness makes it hard to tell what she has faced these past few months. In the last 6 months, her husband Shannon was diagnosed with ALS. This diagnosis came as a shock and has been rapidly progressing. Due to this diagnosis and his current status with this terrible disease, Shannon was forced to stop working and Erika is now his primary care taker and bread winner.

While we have high hopes for the Greaux family and Shannon, the disease has taken a huge toll on their family emotionally and financially. So today is hosting a fundraiser for the family! If you are able to, please stop by to support their family.

And even if you aren’t able to participate or contribute, please keep the Greaux family in your prayers. Erika is a strong, wonderful and loving wife and mother and any support is greatly appreciated ❤️❤️❤️

It’s a beautiful sunny day here is La Verne! And this is your friendly reminder to make sure you put those sunnies on when you’re out and about, especially children!

Did you know:

☀️ Sun damage can be extremely harmful to your eye health and can put you at risk for corneal sunburn, redness and irritation, and long term effects like age-related macular degeneration, cataracts, blindness, and even eyelid cancer

☀️ 5-10% of skin cancer occurs around the eyes

☀️ Individuals with lighter colored eyes have an increased risk of developing eye diseases related to UV exposure because more UV light can pass through the iris. Therefore, those with lighter colored eyes experience more light sensitivity compared to those with darker colored eyes

☀️ Sun exposure from a young age can contribute to the development of eye diseases later on in life, therefore sunglasses are important for children's developing eyes 👀

In December, Joey Casias was murdered trying to help a neighbor prevent a burglary.

In his memory, Dr. Alva will be running the LA marathon this Sunday. If you would like to donate to the Casias family, please click on the go fund me link in our bio or feel free to drop off any donations ❤️❤️❤️.

“This upcoming Sunday (20th) is the annual Los Angeles Marathon. For the first time, I will be a participant. I am not much of a runner, but I decided to run this year in honor of Joey Casias. Two of Joey’s children go to the same school as my children. Joey was murdered trying to prevent a burglar from stealing from his neighbor days before Christmas. Joey leaves behind his 3 children and wife. As you can imagine, his wife is having a difficult time and they could use any help. While the majority of our patients are adults, many people often forget to bring in their little ones for eye exams! Annual exams are important for eye development, prevention and if your little one does need glasses, we have a great selection!

Big things have been happening in our 2️⃣nd Exam Room! If you’ve been in the last week you’ll notice it’s been remodeled 🪚🔨👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼

But one of the most impressive parts is it was done 💯 % by Dr. Alva and his brother in law!

While Dr. Alva is one of the best optometrists we’ve ever known, if he decides to change careers he may have a future in flipping offices 😉
