-A Journey from East to West
My journey in the healing arts began with my Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Hebrew University in Jerusalem. During my decade of nursing experience in Israel and California, I developed a deep understanding of Western medicine and a strong desire to help others achieve optimal health. However, there was more to explore in the world of medicine, which led me to discover the ancient wisdom of Chinese medicine.

🌿✨ Discover the Healing Power of Ear Acupuncture! 🌿✨

Did you know that your ear holds a map to your entire body? Ear acupuncture is an ancient practice that uses specific points on the ear to address various health concerns. Whether you’re dealing with stress, pain, or even digestive issues, this holistic therapy can provide remarkable relief!

Each point on the ear corresponds to a different part of the body. For example, stimulating the point associated with the lower back can help alleviate lumbar pain, while targeting the digestive point can support better gut health. It’s like having a mini control center right on your ear!

Curious to learn more? Book a session with me or join me for my 5 week acupuncture pilot program and experience the rejuvenating benefits of ear acupuncture. Your path to wellness could be just an ear-point away!

How I Came to Practice Chinese Medicine: Debby's Story

From the time I was a kid, I was always interested in medicine. When I was 9 or 10, I decided I wanted to become an ecologist. When I was ready to go to college, I was overseas. I wanted to study occupational therapy or ecology but there was no degree, so I went for nursing. It wasn’t a great fit but it was the best I could do because I wanted to stay overseas.

After being a nurse for 7 years, I was at a crossing point. I felt If I didn’t make a change, I was going to go nuts. A friend invited me to a tai chi class. I had no idea what tai chi was but went out of curiosity. After a few months I discovered that half the class was attending the local acupuncture college. I got invited to an orientation at the school. I went and walked out thinking “I have NO idea what they are talking about!“ It didn’t jive with my western medical training; I had no interest.

A few months later I had to take classes to renew my nurses license. I decided to go to a holistic nursing weekend out of town. The last class I took was an acupressure class. When I experienced acupressure, I was blown away by the peace and relaxation I felt. I went up to the teacher to ask about an acupressure class in San Diego Turned she was from San Diego and was starting a class the next day. I went, studied, got a certificate 6 months later and decided to start a side business doing acupressure massage. I was getting good results and shortly after I started the business had an “Aha moment” that I needed the full practice…needles, herbs.

Back I went to the orientation, this time I “got it”, and signed up the next day. Since then, I have been learning something about the medicine every day. It is a gift!

Over 50?
What's changed?
You’ve gained wisdom, experience, and a few bumps and bruises along the way and most likely a few pounds.
Your body is changing, it has new requirements that are unique to you, while sharing commonalities with others your age.

The longer you live, the more important it is for you to tune into and refine your understanding of your body's needs. This includes dietary, activity, and rest and emotional wellbeing.
You have a unique bodily arrangement. Chinese Medicine can see that. there is no one size fits all as far as maintaining health. We see unique patterns and customize our advice based on your unique needs.

Here are two examples different ways aging might be impacting you.

1) Are you experiencing slow, steady weight gain and sweet cravings? Find it harder to get going in the morning? In Chinese medicine, this is known as the accumulation of 'dampness'. Here's a helpful tip: Focus on your diet-increase the amount of veggies you get while slowly decreasing your sugar/carb intake.
Or
2) Are you lean, have a hard time slowing down, and find it hard to get to sleep? Are you loosing weight without wanting to? This is seen in Chinese medicine as too much heat. Here a suggestion to try: Decrease the amount of coffee and caffeinated beverages you consume and add a bit of cream to moderate its "shock" effect of caffeine. Consider increasing the amount of healthy fats you consume. They are the most calorie rich and slowest burn substance and will help meet your metabolic needs.

Chinese medical practitioners all agree: what we eat will help to determine how healthy we stay throughout our lives and, when used well, facilitate our recovery from injury and illness.

The Chinese attributed different properties to all the foods they were familiar with. They observed people’s reactions to food and determined if the food was hot or cold, wet or dry, they also ate and noticed the different flavors a food had. Medicinal flavors are sweet, sour, salty, bitter, bland, and spicy. Most foods have more than one flavor. Different flavors are said to invoke different bodily responses.
Learning the Chinese perspective on food therapy will help you make good choices both to support healthy living and when needed facilitate recovery.
