🧨 Tips for a Sensory Supportive 4th of July 🎆
Celebrating the 4th doesn’t have to mean discomfort. For our neurodivergent community and those with sensory sensitivities, here are some simple ways to make Independence Day more inclusive, supportive, and calm.
✨ Have support tools ready:
Noise-reducing headphones, weighted items, fidgets, gum or sour candy, and more can make all the difference.
✨ Talk about what to expect:
Going to a party or event? Prep with discussions around who will be there, food options, loud noises like fireworks, and safe spaces or exits.
✨Pack for the unexpected:
Bring sunscreen, extra clothes, towels, a small first aid kit, food and beverage favorites, and anything that may help support the day.
✨Manage expectations before:
Fireworks can be both exciting and frightening. Talk about safety, who can light them, and how close you should get. Discuss how long you’ll be gone and anything else that will support transitions, safety, and emotions.
🧠 Sensory-friendly planning helps everyone enjoy the celebration!
Have a fun and safe 4th of July 🎇
