1st Day of Trout:

Everyone who has joined us on the 1st day of trout understands how important it is to our family and how much this one single day meant to Skip. His face would beam with joy for the little ones as the all lined up and helped put the trout in the pond. 20 years ago it was a handful of kids putting in 100 trout! Buckets after buckets these couple of kids carried to stock the pond and all the adults could do was watch or help carry the heavy buckets to the edge of the pond because only the kids were allowed to put them said Skip! Fast forward to the present!!!! There seems to be more kids than trout now! Our tradition has grown enormously over the years and we are so thankful that a simple time of joy that skip cherished continues to carry on! 9 years ago on a super chilly Wednesday night Skip got to enjoy that for one last time. After all the kids were done and the last trout went in he looked at our family and said “I’m ready to go home”, he made his way to the car as he waved goodbye to everyone and down to the house he went to cuddle into his warm bed ❤️ Nobody knew that when he said he was ready to go home that he would truly go home to heaven that night 😢 Johnny vowed to carry on his dad’s tradition and continues to keep his dad’s memory alive through it being “skips day” forever and always. Years have passed since Skip left but the tradition continues to grow! Our family & friends that join us on that day always find time to thank the man that made it possible. His tradition will carry on through many. As hard as it was to make this years decision to cancel pond stocking and the 1st day of trout until this hectic time passes is one that comes with great guilt and feeling of let down. But we want everyone to be safe and stay home! We are leaning on hope that this will pass and with a short notice shout-out we will be able to have a remake of trout day later in the summer!
