Our residents had the opportunity to visit both Dyess AFB and Goodfellow AFB on their two-day, West Texas roadtrip! Not only were they exposed to what it's like to work at a small base mental health clinic, but our gracious hosts rolled out the red carpet! At Dyess, they toured the Air Traffic Control tower, pet a C-130, and flew in a B-1 simulator. At Goodfellow, they tested their aim, strength, and tolerance to heat at the only Fire Training Academy in the DoD.

This is just one of many unique and exciting training opportunities our residents are afforded. 🔥

Last weekend, our residents had the opportunity to host a free Relationship Enhancement Workshop for any active-duty service members and their partners. They covered topics related to Intimacy, Values, Communication, and Prioritizing the Partnership. This is just one of the many ways our residents get to a serve our local community.

Dr. Michelle Braun shared her knowledge and expertise regarding brain health and how to most effectively translate our research into initiatives. We learned so much and are excited to carry it forward!

Our program sponsored the entire resident cohort’s attendance to the STRONG STAR PTSD Consortium PTSD conference!

At this remarkable event, our residents had the privilege of gaining insights from renowned researchers, clinicians, and veterans, offering them valuable perspectives on the current needs and future directions of psychology. Our residents also seized the opportunity to expand their professional network, connecting with peers, and even engaging with Army psychologists from the Netherlands!

Today, our residents got to tour the Center for the Intrepid at Fort Sam Houston. This world-class, state-of-the-art physical rehabilitation center serves military personnel who have experienced amputation, limb trauma, chronic pain, and/or severe burns. The Center for the Intrepid takes a holistic approach to rehabilitation, prioritizing both the physical and psychological factors required to ensure our service members are prepared to return to the mission. Military psychology can take many forms and it was great for our residents to step outside of the clinic and explore the vast opportunities available within our field.

The conference educated medical professionals across military and civilian sectors on emerging treatment options for patients living with post-traumatic stress disorder.
