This past weekend marked our second year offering a two-day in person summer training for therapists — and once again, the space filled with 60 thoughtful, curious, compassionate clinicians from across Louisiana!

Ashley and I created this somatic training because we care deeply about the power of somatic presence in therapy — and it was incredibly meaningful to share it with a group so ready to engage, explore, and embody the work!

🌀 Day One was about learning the content:
We dug into the nervous system, polyvagal theory, and core somatic principles like curiosity, experimentality, organicity, and non-verbal communication.

🌱 Day Two was about embodiment:
From nervous system mapping to body scans to a full room of therapists expressing states through movement — we spent the day practicing how to bring this work into the body, and into the therapy room.

A personal highlight for me was seeing six of our nine Therapy Garden therapists in the room — not because anyone “had to” be there, but because they chose to. It speaks to their integrity and the shared values we hold as a practice.

And Ashley — I couldn’t ask for a better collaborator. We each bring something different to the table, and this offering wouldn’t be what it is without her🥹

We’re already imagining what next year could look like — possibly in a new space with on-site lodging to make the experience even more immersive. Details coming soon for July 2026.

Deeply grateful to all who made this weekend what it was. Looking forward to bringing what was deepened this weekend to our TTG community. 💚

We’re late in posting this — but not in doing the work.
Because for us, this isn’t just a one-day statement. Racial and social justice are values we carry all year long — in how we practice, how we show up, and how we stay accountable.

Juneteenth marks the day that news of freedom finally reached the last group of enslaved Black Americans in Galveston, Texas — more than two and a half years after the Emancipation Proclamation had been signed.

Freedom had been declared.
But it was withheld.
Delayed.
Strategically kept from those whose lives it should have liberated.

That truth matters.
Because delayed justice isn’t just history — it’s a pattern. And many are still waiting: for safety, for dignity, for repair.

At The Therapy Garden, we don’t speak as experts on this history. But we do speak from a place of responsibility. Our practice is led by clinicians of white ancestry— and we recognize how whiteness and privilege shape the mental health field we’re part of somatically and cognitively, consciously and unconsciously.

We stay in the work by:
– Naming how power and bias show up in our field
– Holding space for conversations many practices avoid
– Requiring accountability from ourselves and each other

Juneteenth calls us back to truth.
To grief.
To repair that’s still unfinished.
We show up for that — not loudly, not perfectly, but with care and intention.

“To truly heal, we must tell the truth about what hurt us — and who built the systems that allowed it.”
— Dr. Jennifer Mullan

Last call to sign up for this Saturday’s Eco Somatic Informed Therapy CEU! Join me live or in person at the UL Student Union Helma B Constantine Forum for a introduction to Eco-Somatics in therapy! Gain a peek into ecotherapy, somatic theory and the blend of these two worlds:eco-somatics.

The first 1.5 hour will focus on lecture style learning with the second 1.5 hour focused on experiential practice of eco-somatic interventions.

Eco-somatics not only blends ecotherapy and somatics, it also provides an intersection of trauma-focused therapy and decolonization/social justice.

💛 Healing should be accessible. At The Therapy Garden, Lauren Cordell PLPC is offering an income-based sliding scale through our “Meet You Where You’re At” Equity Program, with rates ranging from pro bono to $120 per session. This is designed with heart — especially for those in marginalized communities, those without insurance, and anyone navigating financial hardship.

We currently have limited openings in the most affordable tier, and several of our therapists offer flexible rates. We’re also in-network with Blue Cross Blue Shield (commercial plans) and UHC/UMR.

✨If you’re curious about starting therapy, reach out to our front desk (ask for Sunny!) to explore your options. We’re here for you — exactly where you’re at. And when we aren’t able to help, we are here with referrals to trusted partners in mental health in the community.

Allyship isn’t a fixed state — it’s a lifelong commitment to reflection, growth, and action.

We believe our clients deserve therapists who don’t just “accept” diversity, but actively celebrate it. That’s why we vet our team members to ensure they can show up with wholehearted, values-aligned allyship — especially for LGBTQ+ and other marginalized communities.

We’re not perfect. But we are doing the work — learning, growing, and always showing up to challenge one another.

You belong on this earth — just like the trees, the rivers, and the wildflowers. Your existence is not up for debate. It’s biological.

🌱 Eco-Somatic EMDR is back—by popular demand.
Our spring session left therapists feeling inspired, grounded, and deeply connected—to both nature and their clinical work.

This fall, we return to the serene beauty of LSU Hilltop Arboretum for another unforgettable day of trauma-focused, experiential learning—where the land itself becomes part of the work.

✨ Perfect for EMDR-trained therapists looking to deepen resourcing and stabilization through somatic and nature-based methods.
✨ Also open to non-EMDR therapists who want an embodied introduction to EMDR-aligned eco-somatic practices. (Note: This training alone does not qualify you to practice EMDR for trauma processing. You must obtain EMDR comprehensive basic training to ethically call yourself an EMDR therapist.)
